Key light issues on VW Golf 1.9 TDI and knocking/clicking sound

Hi

This is my first post on here so if I am in the wrong place or there is another thread on the same subject then please be gentle with me!

I have a TDI 1.9, year 2002 and it has done just over 71,000 miles but recently I have been having problems with it.

When i turn the key sometimes, not all the time the key light will flash, I take the key out re-insert and turn the key and it is fine. This seems to be a intermittent problem.

Just wanted to know if there is a cheap and easy fix to this?

I also have another issue

On the passengers side there seems to be a knocking/clicking sound coming from the door, this only happens when it is warm and is not always there but when it is it can be annoying.:ffs:

Again any ideas on how to fix?

I do like my golf but after reading about people having issues with there's I am having second thoughts on buying another one. These issues only seem to affect the modern newer VW's. I know people that have golfs from the 80's and they rarely have any issues.

Shame really because that is one thing VW was all about reliability.

Any help is appreciated :grin:+++

thanks

Lee

You're first problem is probably a faulty RFID reader in the ignition switch. Ignition switch problems are all too common on this era of VAG cars.

On you're second issue, does the car have climatronic heating / ac system and are you sure it's coming from the door? You do get a clicking from behind the glovebox due to the motors driving the heater mixing and direction flaps against the end stops. You can get the flaps reset using vagcom/vcds

I take your point on VW reliability, but it's been a while since that was the case. I would go as far as to say that early 2000s is when it hit rock bottom. Earlier and later cars are better

Is this easy to sort or is best to get a mechanic to look at?

Where is the best place to get replacements for these and how much we roughly looking at?

No it does not have climatronic heating/ac system and it definitely coming from around by the passenger door area. Only happens when we get warm weather.

thanks for you feedback
