MMI and Bluetooth questions

Afternoon gents,

Couple of questions for the MMI gurus........

I have a 2007 A8 with B&O, TV and Rear Entertainment system. I want to be able to connect a Ipod Touch/Ipod video stream videos onto MMI screen. What is the best way of achieving this?

Also I have basic bluetooth, but what I find is that, being in the car, the signal strength of the phone reduces significantly. Is there a way of connecting an aerial to the car to increase the signal strenghth in the car?

Many Thanks

Probably an AppleTV in the boot with HDMI to composite convertor and running off a small AC inverter which goes off with the ignition.

You would plug composite video and L & R audio into the AUX in on your TV tuner.

You can then use Airplay from the iphone. You would set up tethering on the iPhone (share a 3G to WIFI) and join the AppleTV to that WIFI. If your carrier forbids tethering, you would also need any old cheap wifi access point in with the AppleTV and inverter.

If it's basic you can't, as the car is not simply accessing the SIM card and using it's own GSM antenna and tranceiver, it is accessing the phone's whole cellular system remotely via bluetooth for audio and contacts only.

Seems a bit excessive, why can't you just use the spare AV input of the TV tuner, the rear seat entertainment does not connect to the TV.

A couple of cables should do the trick, an AV input cable for the TV tuner and an Ipod AV out cable.

As for the phone, some of the A8/S8 have a special glass that cuts down signals in the car, so as you have not stated what phone you have it's hard to say, but maybe you can buy a cradle for your phone which will attach the phone to the roof antenna when inserted into the cradle. What phone do you have?

Thanks for the reply chaps...

The apple tv does sound like a complex solution.....

The cable solution utilising the the spare AV port seems much simpler, I had a quick look in the back but couldnt see the spare AV port, i presume this is well hidden at the back?

My Phone is a HTC One S, as soon as i get in the car i loose 2-3 signal bars on the phone. Is there a way of retrofitting bluetooth high etc to get better reception?

Regards

Upgrading to high will not give you beter reception unless your phone supports rSAP, and then you will have other issues as the 2G rSAP is very poor and doesn't transfer the phonebook in most cases.

Audi are bring out some new generic cradle plates with USB charging etc, they seem to be large rubber mat areas with a power connector on the end of a fly lead, these are to be used for generic phone charging and come in micro usb, Sony ericsson, apple and other charging options. Wether they actually use an rf loop to pick up the antenna or not is another matter, I guess the only way to tell is actually plug one in and use it, see if the bars increase.
