gadgetmind
At about 75k miles, what sounds like a front wheel bearing is grumbling on my '06 3l tdi quattro D3. What is changing it at a local indy likely to cost and can I safely ignore it for a wee while longer? Is it worth doing others at the same time? cruiser647
Bearing? At 75K? It's not unheard of at that mileage, but it is rare these days. What tyres do you have on the car? Sometimes when Conti's get low the noise they make is akin to a grumbling wheel bearing noise. check the tyres first and move them around. See if the noise follows. gadgetmind
They are Pirelli PZERO 255/40ZR19 and the front ones have been on for 25k miles but just got the all clear from the tyre place. However, we will need new ones in a few months so maybe I'll just wait. The noise isn't too loud, but it's a quiet car, so you notice it more. It tends to kick in at around 40mph but has gone by the time you hit 70mph. Thanks for the suggestion of tyres.
gadgetmind
Just for completeness, cruiser647 nailed it and new tyres on the front fixed the noise issue!
