News_Stig
Looking to replace the well respected, loved and missed X-Type, here we have the replacement! [h=2]Jaguar is planning a new XS compact saloon to rival the 3 Series, and we have the best pictures yet[/h] Jaguar is busy developing a new BMW 3 Series-rivalling model to sit below the XF, and these pictures show one of the first early prototypes of the newcomer, which could be badged XS. Hidden underneath this XF body is thought to be JLR’s PLA (premium lightweight architecture) that can be stretched or shortened enough that it fits both the 3 Series-rivalling model shown here and the all-new Range Rover. The engine range is expected to kick off with four-cylinder units, including the 2.2-litre diesel currently used in the XF and a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine currently sold in all Jaguar models. Expect to see V6 diesels and a supercharged V6 petrol featuring, too. While the Jaguar F-Type sports car will likely provide some inspiration for the styling of the new small saloon, Jaguar has previously said its saloons would have a different design identity from its sports cars. In an attempt to boost global sales, Jaguar could also introduce coupe and convertible versions of the new car. Judging by the stage this prototype is at, Jaguar’s new saloon is still a couple of years away from being unveiled. It's likely to arrive late in 2015, with prices starting at around £25,000. No mention of AWD.......
