Bergen, Norway.

Just been treated by Mrs fc to a 3 day birthday break in Bergen, early February.

We have been to Iceland and Gothenburg at the same time of year so we know what to expect weather wise / daylight.

Anyone have any tips apart from avoiding expensive wine (which we will probably not) on things in and around Bergen.

Wrap up warm, to be honest it won't be much colder than Scotland as it's kept warm by the Gulf Stream - this week Bergen is at least +15c warmer than where I live.

Best website the weather: http://www.yr.no/place/Norway/Hordaland/Bergen/Bergen/  (just switch it to english - top right)

Bergen old town and the harbour are nice places to hangout as a tourist, there are also a couple of old museums and churches but apart from that most people only go there for the mountain walking, cruise ships or oil rigs. The food/beer prices in restaurants and bars will make your wallet cry although supermarket prices are much better - Norwegian food isn't exactly great (until you're paying over £50 a head) which explains why there's a McD on almost every street corner.

I'd suggest seeking out a tour - either by train or on one of the RIBB boats that speed around the fjords depending on how adventurous you are. For some ideas: http://en.visitbergen.com/things-to-do/tours/fjord-tours

As Rich says, avoid taxis as you'll pay about £20 a mile - either rent a car or use the local bus/tram service which is a fixed price per journey.

@theduisbergkid lutefisk is yummy (snigger) +++

BTW, make sure you get a window on the plane as the views are great.
