'93 Quattro 100 in Fail-safe Mode

I was driving my '93 Audi 100 Quattro today and it was raining quite heavily. I came up to a set of lights and had to stop and the car stalled. When I started it again it was in Fail-safe mode.

When it went into fail-safe mode I noticed the tachometer was no longer working, which I am guessing is why it went into the mode in the first place.

The only thing I can think might have caused this is that the wiring got wet from driving through a lot of standing water on the road and messed up something in the wiring or computer system.

Has anyone else had an Audi do this? If so, will the system right itself in a few days when the car dries out, or will it need to go to Audi?

One dealer said that it would need to be reset, yet, another said that there is nothing to reset and that it would dry out and be fine.

Please Help!
