A3Floyd
The ABS warning light comes on all of the time on my car now. It started a few days ago. when i start the car, the self-check seems to go fine but as soon as i get above 15mph, the warning light comes on and stays on until i switched the ignition off i've read somewhere that the abs sensors could be dirty - has anyone else experienced this problem? Are the sensors easy to find/clean? Otherwise it'll have to be booked into the dealer <Yikes> Any help/advice would be warmly appreciated!
Ben
I had the same sort of issue on my last Golf. They just reset the sensors, under warranty so couldn't advise on cost. Can't see that it would take more than 5 minutes. Why not try a specialist with the VAG Tools to save on cost?
Ash
One thing to be wary of though Floyd is that when the light's on the ABS itself may not be working. Suggest you try out to make sure... if not I'd get it fixed asap.
A3Floyd
You're right there, Ash. I tried it the other day in the wet and it's definately not working, which is a bit worrying to say the least.

A3Floyd
Loys, where exactly are the sensors? are they easy to get too? I'm thinking of having a look myself before commiting it to the local audi dealer.
philippe
Hey! Loys is friend of mine and i have the same problem on my A3 1.8 '97. Couple of days ago we took the front wheels off and cleanded the ABS sensors, this didn't help. First we thought that the rear wheels didn't had ABS sensor, but when we took off the rear wheels, we saw that they had ABS sensors. We didn't had much time so this job should be done later. Normally when i start the engine the ABS check seems okay but when i drive 10 meters, it turns on. To be sure that the malfunction was caused by the rear sensors (because the front's were allready cleaned) i stopped, turn the engine off, started the engine again (so the ABS light was off) fitted the hand brake and made a burnout!!! and the ABS sensor stayed off. End conclusion rear sensors are dirty or broken.
loys
When you take off the frontwheel, you see a cable come down the shock, this cable goes to the sensor behind the brake-disc. You can't miss it because there's only one sensor. On the rear it's difficult because there's a plate behind the brake-disc so you can't see the front of the sensor which can be dirty ! Hope this helps you !

A3Floyd
Greetings from Sunny India! Well, i got a bit of bad news on friday. I took my car to the local dealers who ran the diagnostic check to see what was causing the ABS light to come on. The report highlighted a failed ABS pump. The pump costs 550 or 900 pounds fitted When i get back, i'm gonna see if its easy enough to change myself. If thats no good then maybe best to try quattrosports or someone like that. I'm sure i can get it done for less than 900! Bit of a bummer bearing in mind i had 500 set by for my Revo

philippe
Hey Dudes, Last weekend i took off the rear wheels and cleaned the sensors but it didn't help. Today I went to a dealer and run a system check. The system was giving a code which he had never seen before. Could you give the code from your system test, maybe it's the same, which i don't hope. Greetings
