Swissol - Shield wax

For the last year I have been using Autoglym products on my car – namely the shampoo, extra gloss protection and the wheel cleaner. I have been quite pleased with the results but was intrigued by the other “premier” products on the market – Zymol, Swissol and Meguiars. A brief look on the Swissol site, and after recovering from the heart attack that ensued from the price of the stuff, I decided I’d make do with Autoglym. Until that is, I saw Ben’s Swissoled S3 here (insert URL).

I was so inspired by the results Ben got, I persuaded my father he needed some, thus providing an easy route to trying the stuff for free. Some timely comments later and he purchased some “Shield” which I used this weekend. Shield is different from their other waxes in that it contains PTFE (Telfon) so dirt finds it difficult to adhere to the surface. Other waxes (Onyx, Saphir etc) would give a deeper shine so I understand but are not as intensive a protector and don’t contain PTFE.

I washed the car with Autoglym car shampoo then did the wheels and tyres, then it was time to break out the serious stuff!

Starting with the Swissol pre-wax cleanser it was immediately apparent this stuff was in a different league. Whereas with Autoglym I would get swirl marks and the scratches on the black paint would become more apparent, with the first stage of the Swissol treatment it completely removed the most obvious swirls and smaller scratches. Once you have used the product in the correct way the paint “squeaks” it is so clean – the white towel revealing just how dirty a car can be after it is washed! An added bonus is that the products smell absolutely gorgeous, no more stinking hands for 2 days after washing!!

The cleaning fluid is not abrasive so deeper scratches remained, however there are more intense products from Swissol that would doubtless remove them.

The Shield wax was then applied and I have to say the results are simply stunning. It is two days later and the car still looks just as good as it did when I finished it. Autoglym never lasted this long – the dirt just doesn’t seem to be sticking to the car. The shine also seems to be deeper (is this just a mild delusion on my minds behalf to convince me the expenditure is worth it?).

I’m a convert – I’ll be buying some of my own. I can’t decide between the Shield and the Saphir however – I like the idea of my car’s paint being protected to the extent Shield claims.

For anyone that wonders what all the fuss is about with these premier cleaning products, if you love your car you will love the effect they have. It took me 3 hours to do the car properly but my word was it worth it. You also don’t need a great deal of the products either which means the pot of wax or cleaning fluid should go a very long way. They are expensive but hopefully this will be counteracted by their longevity.

Wowsers the piccies do look good.

I use Zymol CLEANER WAX. It too smells good, carnauba wax coconout oils, etc... I was polishing the car the other day and the person across the road said she could smell coconuts!! LOL.

It is a good polish, and is a little hard to buff off, if you put too much on and don't rub it in well enough. ALso it does remove the swirls you get from washing and polishing the car with inferior products. One thing I have noticed is that if u put any other polish on top of it( I know some people will be screaming at me) it goes on much easier than usual. The reason I don't always use Zymol if for two reasons, ONE, TIME, and TWO, effort.

The Zymol cleaner wax is very good, but you really have to take your time over it to get it even; if you rush you can certainly tell the dfference between the properly applied stuff and the rushed stuff.

Water beading is briliant, lasts well too. I may purchase the FULL ON stuff, the stuff that takes off the old wax, etc, the scratch remover then go for the fll on wax/polish. BUT, that all goes on dosh. I may check out the swissol stuff too.

Zymol products here. http://www.zdouk.com/

ENJOY

  • 2 weeks later...

One and a half weeks on and it is starting to look less shiney now. We have had a great deal of rain and I completed a round trip to Cardiff - it was shiney until I wne to Cardiff yesterday. However, there are no bugs attached to the car - despite 5 hours on the M4 yesterday.
