carguy
I have a Passat 98 CL, with an 1.6 litre engine and automatic transmission. It wasn't until last summer I started experiencing problems with it. It started jerking when shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear. All the other gears were fine. Perfect actually. So smooth that you couldn't feel it. (just hear it). But 2nd to 3rd was not good. In the summer it startet jerking between these two gears, and i drove like this until September, when I got the car to the shop. By this time, the jerking was REALLY bad. I got a mechanic to drive it. He found no faults on the electronics, so he suggested a transmission fluid change. So i got an oil change. After the ATF change, the car worked great. No more jerking between 2nd and 3rd gear. Evereything was just as it should be. Then came november. I started sensing some minor jerks when the car shifted from 2nd to 3rd gear, and feared that it might be the same problem. And I was right. It started jerking again. But not as bad as the last time. Then the car passed 90000 KM, and I took it to service, and got an other transmission fluid change. The problems went away for a week or two, but now the car is jerking again. It is not always jerking though, but quite often. It doesn't seem to make any difference if the engine is cold or warm. Have anyone else had this problem? Suggestions?
