Tuning a Renaultsport Clio

Hello everyone

I'm after a bit of advice please!

Sick of my [censored] Lupo and it's poor tuning options so I'm looking to change, probably for something Japanese

But.....

I'm also considering a 172/182, and have done a quick search on google for Clio tuners.

The Clio owners forums I saw wanted me to register, so I thought I'd ask TS

Anyone here tuned a RenSport Clio or know of someone who has? Are there many "off the shelf" parts and what are the tuners like, as I am distinctly unimpressed with the VAG ones (serves me right for buying a car with "not much call for tuning mate")

Ta for any help

THat fed up eh?

I never looked to hard for stuff when we had the clio, mainly because we didnt have it long enough.

I would say though that the 172 i had is a step up from the lupo in terms of performance anyway - it has (as the cup varient) all the same weight saving measures only these included no xenons,no ac, lighter glass and trim, bench rear seat - saving of about 100kg over the standard 172 sport.

I did see options for suspension and exhaust, but didnt note much more - I guess your problem will be that it is a normally aspirated engine so tuning is more limited anyway.

With the deals you can get on the Clios though they are worth considering as they are great fun to drive. If you want tuning potential then find yourself a 225TT, Cupra R, Anything Japanese with a turbo (S14, skyline, MR2, etc).

that looks interesting my 182 is due Monday 20th Sept, I think the standard exhausts are 3 inch ?? (always been an Audi/VW man now preparing to alter my ethos !!) the 3.5 inch should look reaqlly good and as they say, give a little extra bhp, always good !! Don't know what the Renault warranty says about this sort of thing though????

  • 2 weeks later...

She's here . 182 arrived last Wednesday, already up to 400 miles so only 250 before I can go past the 3500 revs. The difference is amazing already. When I picked her up she had only done 2 miles, felt very stiff and reluctant to pull away, already she feels smoother and a bit more rev happy. Black Gold paint looks superb, particularly with the charcoal cup alloys. Two niggless so far, Head rest catches don't work, you can just pull them up and down without locking and I think the Cd/Radio is playing up, horrible electrical sounds front the speakers on occasion, other than that she appears fine. Roll on the miles.......
