Mines been a bitch since i ugraded firmware and installed SP2.

a mistake, in that i shouldnt have changed so much at the same time... smashfreakB.gifsuicide.gif and then not know what was causing the problems..

I have come to the following conclusions...

SAVE a copy of every firmware past and present Belkin offer as they remove the old firmware when they release a new one.

I was stuck because i could not go back. Luckily i tracked a firmware down and someone emailed me the .bin file i needed..

After playing around (on/off)with built in firewall, mac addresses, SSID visable/not visable etc and wep i seem to narrow it down and my problems seem to have stemmed from wep hex keys (im stuck with 64K for now.)

DO NOT trust "PassPhrase" generated hex keys.. to work.

It appears they do not necesarily generate a corect/valid key.

instead use a third party hex key generator such as below and manually type it in the boxes..

WEP KEY GENERATOR SITE

Im now back up and running on laptop with SP2 installed once again, and working on old firmware,

once i am happy that its stable, ill try the new firmware again, safe in the knowledge that i can re-install the old one if i need to.

Alsdo if you disable SP2's firewall, check in its set up that it is also disabled for everything in the exclusions section, as these by default stay protected and can feck up your wireless if you dont need it.

My Netgear router works a treat with SP2. The only problem I sometimes seem to get is the laptop will not pickup an IP address from DHCP. This requires either a reboot of the router, the laptop or both, very annoying. I have yet to try using a static address. Anyone else get this problem?

Also some more settings are available on the Belkin, that Belkin dont let you see sekret.gif

For the more technical people... i havent a clue what half these settings are for...

(cut pasted from elsewhere...)

Want to finally get your SNR or dBm figures from this router? It's possible!

Log in to the router, then add: /ADSL_status_main.stm

So, on mine I log in, then manually go to : http:// 192.168.2.1/ADSL_status_main.stm

and more...

WAN

»192.168.2.1/atmint.stm/3

»192.168.2.1/isp.stm

Wireless

»192.168.2.1/wireless_e.stm

»192.168.2.1/wireless_wep.stm

»192.168.2.1/wireless_wpa.stm

»192.168.2.1/wireless_1X.stm

NAT

»192.168.2.1/nat_main.stm

Firewall

»192.168.2.1/firewall_spi_h.stm

ADSL

»192.168.2.1/adsl_para_main.stm

DDNS

»192.168.2.1/ddns.stm

I have the same setup as you and mine is working a treat with Service Pack 2 and latest firmware.

I did have a few troubles when I was using WEP, but that was because I was trying to enter the pass phrase on the laptop instead of the HEX result from the pass phrase. I am using WPA-PSK now which has so far proved to be very reliable. I have to admit though I am still only turning on the Wireless part when I need it UHOH7.GIF

When you had all your problems, why didn't you reset the router back to factory defaults? thats what I have done a couple of times when I got confused with it all. You can also do a hard reset which Belkin taught me and thats to hold the reset button in for 2 1/2 minutes.

Have to say Belkin tech support have been fantastic when ever I have phoned them smile.gif

Glad your sorted now 169144-ok.gif
