Riz
Anybody know of this been done on the R32? can the engine cope with it at higher ends of the speedo. Its quite common to see these standard 3.2 Litre V6 engines produce approx 160mph and i was wonder what would happen if the NOS was injected at this point? Booom? R32Ash
If the Engine can handle 600bhp with a twin turbo setup, I'm sure it can handle properly setup Nitrous. It's only a power increase after all. So long as the rev limiter is working - at 160mph the rev's are pretty high! - a nitrous shot at 160mph shouldn't be any more harmful than at any other speed I wouldn't have thought (?) Ash. mb
Hi Riz, one of my friends put nitrous on his bike once - when we spoke to teh man in the N2O shop he basically said he had never had a customer he couldn't give enough bhp to ! The key to reliability is adding the correct amount of fuel to prevent detonation etc. N2O itself is not flammable, when it is sprayed into the engine it breaks down and liberates O2 (which supports more fuel being burnt) & N which "softens" the burn - as long as you add more fuel everything should be OK. In use there is bound to be more wear & tear (they had kits that added up to 200 extra bhp...) realistically you wouldn't drop the button at VMax, my friends setup (bike) had a microswitch that allowed the NOS to kick in (if armed) for full throttle openning in gears 3,4,5 - this was the 50 bhp kit IIRC - I remeber he could wheelie it in fourth and he never went back for an upgrade. Oh and the first few bottles lasted no time at all... The advice is definitely go to someone who knows what they are doing as the "off the shelf"kits will provide the correct NOS/fuel and not need a lot of engine mods. Chipped cars should probably stay away as chips often get their gain from advancing teh ignition which will increase the risk of detonation (esp combined N2O)
Riz
So lets say at 160mph the R32 got a +50bhp of NOS... would that suddenly increase the top speed fast? Riz
mb
Hi Riz, You have to cube bhp to increase speed so you need a 30% increase in bhp to increase top speed by 10%, drag is your enemy here so you may get 10-12 mph increase (if the gearing etc. suits), but NOS is really for acceleration not top speed

mb
They had direct port injection which is really hard core even so you would still use it continuosly I would think, though it could depend on teh state of tune of teh motor. The bike set up just kicking in on WOT was really good, if you think 6463 was good imagine and extra 100 bhp with teh benefit it only comes in under hard use and so you don't have to live with a "race spec" engine setup the rest of teh time. Riz [/ QUOTE ] Remember top speed isn't just about bhp, if you're on the rev limiter in top gear at 160mph - then thats your lot !! Hence the big power conversions lengthen the gearing as well as increasing the rev limit.
Riz
Yup HGP will take care of that... 205mph TUV rated!!! Riz
english68
Sounds like someone here could do with an R32 Skyline, as well as the Golf! (800 to 1000bhp easily, they say...)
