Tomk
what do you think ? have a look at www.tomtom.com for a 'flash' demo of the system , it really is spot on!
UBM
Thats where I bought mine. A Dell Axim X-5 with the upgraded extra memory and faster processor. Tomtom 3 works a treat with the powered mount. I used CheckPoint to upload all the speed camera and POIis.....
shao_khan
Apparently PC world were actually doing pretty good deal on Ipaq2210 with Tomtom - dunno if its still running.

Tomk
so what you going to go for ? remember if you are going for a seperate pda, then purchasing the tomtom software and cable you will need (at min) a 128MB sd card, and the faster memory the better - makes a diffferent when loading the maps as you drive along, my 1st card was crap as it was so slow, if you search ebay for fast sd card, kingmax do one that is 60x faster than standad, i payed £25 for my 512mb one, so i get plenty of movies and mp3's on the pda too
CarMad
Don't you get a 128MB SD card with the TomTom software I have TomTom for my Palm T3 fitted into my car. I use the memory card that it came with and things are fine and have had no problems whatsoever. It recaluclates in seconds. Maybe its more of a problem with bloaty pocket PCs... not sure. But certainly isn't from what I have seen on mine. Top software. Not perfect but to be honest all Sat-Nav has one compromise or another.
Tomk
i think tomtom do do a packaged version with the maps pre loaded on to an sd card, that card is made by panisonic and is a fast sd card, its cheaper to get one sepeartly, i agree with the compromise, its not 100% you need some brains to use it ! but its ace when you are not too sure were the nearest cash point is and you just tap it in to the sytsem to take you there+++
CarMad
Gotcha. I got the full set-up with the wired GPS sensor for my birthday. Its one of those things that I really couldn't be without now, has helped me round traffic jams and closed motorways and through town centres that would have been very difficult to do when driving on you own normally. My Dad is going to get a Navman 510 for chrimbo.. Will have to see what thats like.
Durrsaku
Would a Sony-ericsson P900 work? Does anybody know?
Omi
I don't think TomTom supports Symbian Software... Check their compatibility list on the website.
Tomk
yes it does but its very slow on mobile phones , you can do it with the bluetooth tomtom kit,
Rich
Tom tom for £120? Is that just the software? I've seen the TT software, car cradle and GPS unit for £160 but if its available for less then great!! Or does anyone know where you can get the IPAQ Tom tom cradle and tom tom GPS units cheap? Seen them for £75 / £39 respectively. Want the Tom Tom stuff, as all the cables can plug into the cradle, so its as simple as docking and undocking the pda, job done, no worrying about cables! Big_Dan
Be careful with the car holder as there is a "Car Kit" which is a true click the PDA in jobby that depends on your PDA - very few actually are compatible, the other is a "Car Holder" which is a generic holder that just grips the sides of the PDA and you have to plug the cable in manually. UBM
I made my own mount from a 3/4 of the powered mount, a block of wood, some silver paint and a good wedge below the central air vent....solid as a rock!
Tomk
i just bought a magentic mount from ebay for £10 a cable for £15 and the kit from ebuyer for £110 so thats all you need , oh and a pda and an SD card
Rich
The Tom Tom cradle is the true click it and go job, no having to manually plug in cables. I have seen it with other Ipaqs (not my model admittingly) and it works fine. Looks so much cleaner as well.
UBM
My cradle is click and go for the Dell Axim X-5. It was a [windscreen mounted affair, but the suction pad to attach to the windscreen has suffered in the cold and so I had to "doctor" it slightly to be dash mounted - which is a big improvement.
