Hi I don't know if I've got a MAF problem, but during acceleration the car sometimes hesitates for a fraction of a second.

I've logged in with VAG COM and found the following :->

A) 1 Fault Found:

17608 - Boost Pressure Control Valve (N249): Mechanical Malfunction

P1200 - 35-00 - -

B) The Max Air Mass Flow monitored was 132.28 g/s with a max RPM of 5600

Does anyone know if I've got a problem with both the MAF and valve n249?

Thanks David

Car 2001 S3, non modified.

Has had a "engine rebuild" about 3 months ago

clear them see if it comes back.

Maf does seem a bit low. id have expected 160's at peak RPM from a standard 225.

mine hits 190+ remapped. With occasional 200 g/sec

N249 is under the engine cover over cylinders 3&4.

check its plugged in, its not uncommon for it to be left unplugged after works been carried out on the coil packs/spark plugs etc.

thinking about this,

mechanical function doesnt lend itself to a electrical fault with it being unplugged.

Then again, it wont mechanically work if unplugged, so possible.

N249 is to do with Diverter valve control, so you may also want to check that, If you google N249 some people with aftermarket DV's have had this code when using too strong a spring.

I guess a dodgy sticking or torn OEM DV could give similar results and would affect performance.
