New Polo

Pick up my approved used Polo on monday, good job as well as I think mine is on its last legs (im going to have to park at the far side of the car park so he doesn't hear the noises his part-ex is making!).

It's in a colour thats actually called racing green by volkswagen and its metallic, not my first choice of colours but it really is growing on me thinking about it. Never bothered with my current car as it was just a starter car to get at least a years no claims under my belt but im looking to make a few changes to this one. Don't get me wrong, I hate chv cars as much as you lot but I want it to look a little more serious.

Read a few places that Ritey recommended the front splitter gets colourcoded but with it being dark already it might not make much difference. With regard to the alloys, I really like multispoke (i.e. lots of thin spokes) ones and will either get some of these or some similar to the GTI ones. What you all think will look better?

An the topic of the GTI, does the GTI have any styling changes to the normal mk4 facelift Polo?

Also, how do you all think white alloys would look on the car? Anyone got any pictures of any dark green car with white alloys?

Have had a read of other posts regarding alloy size and drops but any comments would be helpful. Get a feeling Ritey will be a big player in any replies!

The grill also is honeycomb instead of slatted and fogs would be optional extras.</font>

What do you think white alloys would look like?

From what I've seen the car can be made to look very good with relatively small wheels and a bit of a drop, quite like the look of black alloys and some quite chunky tyres myself, dont know why but it just make me think racecar! blush.gif

Had a look around uk-polos.net and theres all sorts flying about regarding drops and wheel sizes, not keen on rolling the arches or anything at all, infact I just wont do it, would 16" alloys fit with no rubbing with a drop? Also, any recommendations on what size drop looks good? Read somewhere that the GTI's are 30mm lower?

I believe the GTI's are lower, but I've dropped mine another 35mm allround as pics in my gallery show they were still far too high for a sports car.

I believe 16"'s providing the right offset and caliper clearance shoud fit without having to roll arches. I'm constantly on the lookout for some BBS RXII's in 16 as these are the GTI wheels just an inch bigger, same offset etc. They were available on the older style golf cabrio a few years back and are really hard to find.

I'll try do a photoshop later of some white wheels on the above polo but busy doing dissertation at the minute, kind of tongue.gif

DannyMacca,

I've got a few pics of Polo GTis on the standard 15" BBS RX2s:

Firstly, my Polo, standard:

Ritey's Polo, approx. -35mm drop:

"Dubpolo"'s Polo fitted with coilovers, approx -75mm drop:

Should give some idea of how low you can go and what it might look like! Compare the arch gaps from top pic to bottom and you'll see what I mean! cool.gif

Cheers

Quite a considerable change with just a 35mm drop there! Might go for that myself, 15" wheels with 35mm drop or some 16" wheel with some lower profile tyres, what you guys think?

Your after some 16s Ritey so I kinda know what you think!

What tyres you got on there? I dont mean brand, I mean measurements! 169144-ok.gif

Hello mate,

Your 2001 Polo will be a 4-stud 4x100 ET38 alloy wheel fitment, and the Santa Monicas are a 5-stud 5x112 fitment as standard IIRC. So basically without any modifications they won't bolt straight on. What you'll need are hub adapters to convert your 4-stud setup to take 5-stud wheels.

It's something I've never investigated seriously so I can't help on the technical or pricing side of things, but the bottom line is that to get a set of alloys that will bolt straight onto your Polo with the least of fuss, you will be looking for 4x100, ET38 - there should be a good selection of similarly styled alloys out there for your car! 169144-ok.gif

HTH!
