Advice pls chaps, like all new TDI owners I am eager to get a little bit of extra power out of my new PD unit. I have installed a KNN panel filter and will be flushing the injector system with the millers treatment which comes highly recommended by many posts. However, I want more... ECLIPSe.gif...of course! is there a way I can check the engine without incuring the arse fecking wrath of VW 123576-assfeck.gif ? Im assured that the plug in units are bad news (over fueling etc) and a remap is the way to go. But at £500 a pop the price tag has wincing a tad! blush.gif

To be honest I'd ditch the K&N panel, the oil on the filter (if it's oiled) can create a film on the MAF and lead to incorrect fuelling and lost performance.

If you mean check the fault codes on your engine check out vag.com. You'll need to download the software and buy the appropriate lead direct, however it will probably pay for itself over a short period of time if you are keen on DIY motor maintenance.

Plug in units do indeed overfuel and therfore increase the output of the engine, they achieve this normally by just having a resistor between the wiring loom coming from the engine back to the ECU. (Some are reputed to be better than others however!)

The best route would be to get a remap, if you want a stealth remap go for one that is uploadable through the OBDII port.

Many tuners offer this option now including APR, Revo, AmD etc.etc.

The AmD version has the benefit of being able to completely download the code out of the ECU with a simple push of the button. The Revo version is rumoured to simply to place a torque limit on their code.

If the car is your own, I would go the remap route everytime, and get something that is suited to your car, rather than a crude solution.

Having said that if you plan to sell the car in a year or so, then it's unlikely to give you too many problems in the short term.

Nope - because even if you make the changes your cars fueling will still be regulated by the ECU code, the only way to make that change would be to get a remap.

A nice littel trick for you.

Put a 220 ohm resistor across the fuel temperature sensor plug,(it is on the fuel line near the head nad just unplugs) and leave it unplugged with the resistor in.

The ECU then thinks you're diesel is at 116 degrees C.

Hot diesel is less dense than cold diesel, so the ECU squirts more in, the mod is good for 10bhp or so, and is definately noticable.

You can buy the resistor from RS or Maplin for about 10p.

The 150 has the following "minor" differences to the 130.

Unit Injectors, Pistons, Rods, Crank, Turbo and ECU. Some later models also have a larger intake diameter.

I wouldn't pay neck end of £400 for a tuning box, when you can get a remap for less than that, and a GOOD remap for not a lot more. As for the "Evry mod", a variable potentiometer linked in series with a push button on / off switch is a better bet than a resistor. Still wouldn't do it, but food for thought.

With Chris here. Take the block apart and compare the sizes of the con rods. Just like the 1.8T range - con rods twice as chunky in a 225 TT than a stock Golf GTi.
