silentandy
Just thought I would revisit this thread again due to my car being with the dealer today to have the door seal and number plate stuck back on! I mentioned the random rear wiper to them but obviously couldn't demonstrate due to it's unpredictability. Anyway as someone else suggested there is a VW technical bulletin for this issue which advises the exchange of the wiper motor if you get this problem. They're going to do mine on Thursday, said it's only a 5 min job
schofier
I can confirm that since the rear wiper motor replacement roughly two months ago mine has behaved perfectly.
RedRobin
[ QUOTE ] Just thought I would revisit this thread again due to my car being with the dealer today to have the door seal and number plate stuck back on! [/ QUOTE ] In the hot summer down here by the seaside (just for LeMan's benefit!), my number plate lifted off too. I got them to screw fix it instead of the "permanent, no it definitely won't come off sir" dealer fit.
AlanH
I had my wiper motor replaced a couple of weeks ago, and it's been fine since. However, it was something of a battle persuading the "technician" that this was a fairly well-known fault. Finally, my salesman wandered over and suggested that as I had spent over £20,000 on a new car, fitting a new wiper motor should not be a major problem. Technician then proceeded to enter the details into his PC. He finally turned to me and asked me how to spell "intermittent"
jason_s
ive just been over to france and had to stick a ruddy GB sticker to my car. i would have thought that the euro plates with the gb on the number plates are standard as were in the eu. did you guys get your car with standard plates or eu plates?
RedRobin
My plates have the blue strip (matching my other blue highlights, dear) with EU letters. Surely I won't need an additional GB sticker will I?
jason_s
no you wont robin, did you ask for these specifically or were they standard? think another trip to stealers might be on the cards.
RedRobin
Thanks for info, Jay. Not standard, but an offered option by the dealer but only EU or nothing....No GB available. My conversation at the time informed me that it was up to the individual dealer what options they offered on plates.
jason_s
ok, thanks red. i never had an option given to me.

silentandy
It's not a requirement by law or standard to have Euro plates: http://www.dvla.gov.uk/vehicles/regmarks/reg_marks_current_requirements.htm#europlate
Snoopy
I got the EU plates but my dealer fits them as standard anyway its upto the dealers what type of plates they fit.
ajw
Speaking of number plates you want to look at all the styles you can get in NSW - Australia. NSW number plates There's 13 types not including about another 10 or so they don't make anymore. Great money maker for the State Government. OzGTI
They have to make their money some how. They can't seem to get anyone to use their new tunnel, so why not sell plates. Are they still produced in the goals as they used to be?
ajw
Not sure where they make them now.
RedRobin
Re NSW plates: Are all those very various styles all legal!? Lucky you if so! The UK is horribly conventional and up its own arse with red tape and bureacracy! When you consider that one of the principle functions of a plate is to provide individual vehicle recognition then 'customising' actually greatly increases the ease of recognition! Duh!!....Bureaucratic thinking....Duh!!
jason_s
got a result today. went to stealer to complain about a few things and they said that when they take my car in they will change my plates to european plates free of charge (considering they used a half tank of petrol last time the car was in there)
silentandy
I had my rear wiper motor changed today. I noticed that if it wasn't covered under warranty it would have cost £71!!

I noticed today that my plates heve the blue side strip (both front and back) with GB and Euro symbol of a circle of stars above. I don't mind a small Milltek sticker in my rear window but not a large ugly GB!
ajw
[ QUOTE ] Re NSW plates: Are all those very various styles all legal!? [/ QUOTE ] Yes they are all legal - you can have just about any text on a number plate (up to a point) if you want to pay for it. Plus you've got Red, Blue, Green, Purple, small size, Normal black & yellow, Euro, Black & White, & now Gold, Silver variations So like you said it makes it very easy to ID the car with all those combo's. RedRobin
It's largely because of the fact that UK plates are meaningless gobblygook without any character or identity that prompted me to buy my personal plate VW05 RED to honour the car rather than my own ego. I was just about to leave a parking bay on the street yesterday when I saw heard a little girl of about 8/9yo say: "Look mum, that red car has got RED written on it." She was beaming all over her face and clearly approved! It made me smile as well
OzGTI
So in the end it while honouring the car, it seems it didn't do your ego any damage either , Red. Out of the mouths of babes. You have got to love it.
RedRobin
That's right and who doesn't like their ego getting gently stroked occasionally as well. It's just that I would find, for example, that ROB 1N to be too pretentious, but it can be a fine line. To bring a smile to anyone's face is always a great thing imo. Simonl
The only problem with plates that honour a car, is when they sell, they feel obliged to take the plate with them. I always see BMW XX on a big mercs. But so long as you stick to red cars Red, you should be OK ...FF ten years... is that a VW plate on a Beemer!!! hang on a minute, even more amazing... is that a 90 year old driving that red M3
