Subzero Posted June 28, 2005 Report Share Posted June 28, 2005 Hi all, I have been thinking about getting some xenon bulbs for my 2000 Tdi passat from ebay, and last night i noticed that 1 of my lights had stopped working so now is as good time as any. felixthecat1 Posted June 28, 2005 Report Share Posted June 28, 2005 I had them in my Passat B5.5 and they were great. You have better headlights in the B5 though. VW decided to fit projectors in the 5.5 and they are rubbish, like having to childrens flashlights. Osram and Philips both do good xenons charged bulbs. I found Silverstar were very good. Rustynuts Posted June 29, 2005 Report Share Posted June 29, 2005 Halfords own brand. They had an offer on a while ago, buy one, get one free. Powerbulbs are very good and you get a free pair of ice blue sidelight bulbs with every set of headlights. Phillips Visionplus are good. The ones with the blue tint do not make your headlights look like a posh Merc or BMW with the HID headlights, they just sell well to the boy racers who can't see past their nose end when it comes to buying stuff that they think is cool. They do give a slightly different colour light, but the plain bulbs give more useable light which is what your headlights really are for, innit. jojo Posted June 30, 2005 Report Share Posted June 30, 2005 I have put a proper Xenon kit(bulbs and ballasts) onto my X-2000 Passat, and the are absolutely brilliant, much brighter than before and a longer and wider beam, also light up proper blue on start up before settling to a bright white, but this cost me 200 notes! The bulbs wrighthere is talking about are just Xenon filled not Xenon bulbs. They still have a filament and are still just halogen. They do give a much better light output but no way near, not even close, not the same ballpark no comparison to the light given off by a Xenon bulb with no filament.
