Door Rattles

A week into GTI ownership and I've just got my car back from the Dealers after it went in to have drivers and passenger door rattles sorted out.

Front passenger side rattles around the speaker / door pocket area. The drivers door higher up around the alarm indicator LED area.

Response from the dealership is that both door panels are fitted correctly and they can't do anything about it! shocked.gif

I've told them that this is unacceptable and are waiting their response.

I paid extra for the soundpack, and it's irritating that I can't use the system to it's full advantage due to the rattles.

Currently driving round with a business card wedged in to the top of the drivers door panel to alleviate one of the rattles. crazy.gif

Reading the forums, it seems that it's not uncommon to have buzzing rattling from the doors.

I'll post back when I get any progress on the issue.

Should say that apart from these 'niggles' I am really loving the new car. grin.gif

Hi Melchior,

I have the door rattles you mention, I think.

Is it near where the panel meets the window near the LED lock, if you grab the panel and squeeze it goes away. I suppose your business card is mimicking this.

I also have rattles coming from the back seat area and one from the front dash once in a while

Yep that's the one! Have you had any joy getting yours sorted? confused.gif

Also hearing the noise from the back every once in a while, sound like the one you describe as being from the back seat area. frown.gif

Dash is quiet though. laugh.gif

Pah, Gremlins, determined not to let them spoil my fun. smile.gif

I'm not hearing any rattles etc but my driver's door is not flush fitting in glass area (fits perfectly at door panel level). My VW approved and (I'm told) award winning bodyshop head told me that he had been on a VW course and door fitting methods in factory have been revised....There is much more adjustability and so the dealer should be able to make adjustments for us all.

I am only repeating what I have been told. He's going to adjust my door in the same session he fits my Milltek boy-racer Non-resonated Quads and Abt rear smile.gif

I've had two rounds with the dealer regarding rattles and TBH they have been great so far, although soooo annoying! Drivers seat had new base and sorted out stero & centre console rattles, they correclty fitted the doors (which I didn't know needed doing) & corrected the recall........Occassionlly I have the door ones mentioned, if they get worse I'll get it booked back in fekr.gif

IMHO these niggles do spoil my fun, it's a great car but this really lets it down!

So lets summarise we have:

1. The front door rattle, located in the panel near the LED

2. The Back Seat Area Rattle

3. Front Dash Rattle

Any more ?

I think the back seat rattle is near the arm rest too.

Haven't booked my car in for rattles but after the success of some of you guys, I may just do so.

same here... been back at dealer twice... initally had a buzz at bottom of centre console (cured), 1 rear door and front passenger... now left with passenger door only intermittently and dependent on road surface... but it's annoying... thinking of having a 3rd party line the panels or something

I too have a rattle from the passenger door area, but I think it's caused by the seatbelt buckle hitting the door frame.

That is particulary annoying. Wedging the buckle at the top seems to be a temporary solution - anyone got any more permanent ideas ?

Seriously, perhaps we should not be quite so picky? Every car I have ever owned (from cheap to much more expensive than the GTi), has rattled in some way.... I think it is how the dealer deals with the problem that is most important. For example, years ago I have a Renault that rattled like crazy from behind the dash. Every time I took it in to have this fixed, I was fobbed off. Sounds like VW are at least having a crack at fixing things...?
