silentandy
hehe I don't think she'd have a license left if we actually did that. Everytime she drives she's like a kid in a sweet shop and zooms around everywhere! She doesn't understand why I want to change to DSG though, she's confused by technology and think she won't be able to drive it!
mu71rd
Scott - do you have your car yet, and/or did you get your invoice in the end? Am having to chase Select more than I would like at the moment to find out where the damn car actually is!
scotw
Hi Murd, Invoice through and paid.I had to chase abit as well, I get the feeling they're busy, but that no excuse. I had an original "no later than the 10th of Nov" but that hasn't bene confirmed so I'm still waiting...
mu71rd
well I rang them again and it's being transported to the dealer apparently. will get the invoice next week. then I guess it's a case of waiting for it to come over to Select, where they spend a few days registering it etc. Is that your version of events too?
scotw
Pretty much - I got an email from the Dealer last Wednesday to tell me it was there and Shaun let me know too. But it took until the Tuesday after that to get me the invoice ! Shauns doc says 10-14 days after that so his original estimate of "worst case 10th Nov" is looking a bit shakey. Since I have to fly to London from Aberdeen and my work diary fills up quick, its a bit frustrating that I can't get a definative delivery date yet... mu71rd
hmmm I'm not hopeful for next week then! bugger. well I'll make sure I pester him so much that he can't wait to get rid of me! Bit of a bummer having to fly to London for it - I'm lucky that I live in London already, so altogether a bit easier for me to pick up. You'll enjoy the drive home though! scotw
yeah, by the time I get home she'll be run in
mu71rd
what would be even better is if she was run in 3/4 the way home, then you could make a bit of a sprint finish!
scotw
Even better - Shaun was nice enough to send me a piccy of her....

mu71rd
feck! do you think that could be my car next to it?! diamond black, 17" - any other signs to be seen? looks RHD to me! dreaming...
mu71rd
uh oh. looks like leather seats. probably isn't mine!
Simonl
how can you tell if that's leather. It's a black 3dr on 17"s, that's for sure.
mu71rd
i can't really - just being pessimistic. Pessimism is best at times like this. looks like 3dr tho - the odds are working in my favour I reckon...
scotw
Murd it could well be yours, if so you should get your invoice soon, I got an email from the German garage the day it arrived though, which would imply its not yours. Hope it is and you get it soon
mu71rd
well Oliver emailed me to say it was on the way to the dealers yesterday. I'll get ready to pay for it isntantly, just in case they're waiting for mine before they transport them all over...
scotw
Murd, Shaun told me it would arrive on the 26th and sure enough on the 26th Oliver emailed me to let me know it was there. Invoice took six days to get though and of course they are not going to let the car go until they've been paid. Shaun sent me the nice piccy on Friday, but still no delivery date and since I have to travel I'm keen to get it over and done with. I'm kinda concerned now that they are waiting for yours to arrive and they'll send 'em both at the same time You never know, might meet you down there
mu71rd
well I have a currency contract with Halo Financial which expires on the 8th. That is the end of my 12 week period, and beyond that I will get charged extra. I will write to Shaun insisting that he gets them to hurry up with the invoice, so I don't charged, and they pull their thumbs out!
RedRobin
FAO Scott, murd, and anyone else getting theirs via Select or similar: It may be very useful for the rest of us if after your cars have been delivered, you post an overview of your buying experience....Apart from the cost saving, would you do it again and why etc. Cheers
mu71rd
certainly will. I'll wait until after i have it in my hands. Would be a bit embarassing to sing their praises, and then end up with no car
RedRobin
It's, so far, sounding like the overall experience and savings are excellent but that that last leg of the journey is similarly frustrating whichever buying avenue gets used....Salesmen are salesmen whether cars or property....The Leopard doesn't change his spots. Hang on in there! You've heard this so many times before but she is worth the wait!
mu71rd
and it's so good to hear every time! Was thinking the same myself - that it seems in my case that the majority of the delay is in getting the car from the factory to the dealer (albeit one in Germany) - same problem as Leman is having. Wonder what's causing the delays?! anyway, I'm hanging on for dear life! [would me saying it had been a terrible experience from day one help put some R32 thoughts to bed? ]
RedRobin
I really think it's all the exporting/importing/dockside etc etc red tape. I tried unsuccessfully to go to Wolfsburg in person and pick her up. The forms and bureaucracy, let alone the extra costs paid at national frontiers, were horrendous in extreme. For example, I was told that on landing in the UK, even with all the correct paperwork and UK build certification, I would not be allowed to drive it on the fecking Queen's Highway and would have to put it on a trailer!! I must stop ranting! Thoughts of a new R32?....It has crossed my mind and you have read my mind!! But it's a measure of how much I like the GTI that it's something I don't see myself doing for some time. Mk6 R32 perhaps but only if it's really something special. Surely I'm not alone in having thoughts about the R32.
mu71rd
well I'm not at that stage yet - having not even put 1 mile on my GTI yet!
spankit
Not for me, no thanks. Would rather remap the gti to 250bhp.
