mu71rd
'select' is a company called select automotive who do GTI imports, but source them from the same place as the uk dealers. Difference is once it's made, it gets sent to a german dealer instead of an English one. that's where Scott and I are now, waiting for the transport company to bring it over for registration... [or was that not a serious question?! ]

spankit
If your car turns out to be a friday f*ckup and was supplied from an import broker, how do you reject this import? Is the consumer contract between you and the dealer? Or is the contract between you and the import broker?
mu71rd
the contract is between me and VW - so I can reject just as much as anyone else. hoping it's not tho!
spankit
Are you sure, seen posts here that the contract is between you and the value added reseller (V.A.R.). It is the V.A.R. that has contractualy obligated himself to supply you with the goods fit for intended use.
scotw
Murd, guys, no news yet oh look 200 posts!
scotw
Still no news..... My "you'll have it by the 10th, worst case" was pants it appears. If it doesn't come next week my GTi will have waited 1 month in Germany, to which I will then send a resounding NO, I would not buy from Select again
Simonl
My worst case scenario date was the 14th. Mine has been stuck somewhere for 2 weeks now (in germany) and hasn't moved on from "production complete" really getting to me now!!!!!
simkna
Scott, the thing is, it doesn't matter whether you'd ordered from Select or a UK stealer, both are equally likely to experience build or shipping delays.. the difference is you've saved about three grand, so don't get too upset. Si.
scotw
Si, yeah you are right they can all be late, but this is partic frustrating as the car is made and sitting in a garage and I was assured that it would take at most 1 week, then 2....now its 3 and counting. Its being let down thats frustrating
spankit
Scott W maybe it's never comming, you hear about the import con all the time! after 3 weeks I would be down there with a base ball bat looking for my money...
Simonl
Feel your pain scott, i'm in exactly the same boat. My car was finished over 2 weeks ago and has not moved since.
scotw
Thanks for the positive message Spankit ! I'll hold on the bats for now, I suppose I just have to wait, although if it gets to the month I'm gonna ask "you going to extend my 24 month warranty to cover my actual delivery date?" spankit
Scott you paid the german dealer direct from your bank account
Simonl
i haven't paid my dealer yet, phew!
scotw
Yip, the dealer was paid in full when the car arrived, Select have not been paid and won't be until I pickup the car. Thats part of the frustration, its my car, its paid for, its waiting in Germany - not zooming around the Scotish hills where it should be.
spankit
Have u spoken to the dealer direct, take select out of the complain chain. You car, you've paid for it, get on to the German dealer to push things along. I am sure you will get answers as the Germans all speak very good English(not sure about Scottish) and have an inbuilt need to be efficent. mu71rd
scott - thinking somehting needs to be done monday am. (as in something more than "where is it shaun?" followed by the usual excuses). select PAY the transport company to bring our cars over, and it seems like the transport company are shite. it's in selects interest to get them to pull their thumbs out, so I might ring shaun and start being a bit more threatening (somehow?). any ideas? scotw
Hiya Murd, I did think of this, how do we apply some pressure, but Im not sure what we can do. The cars belong to us as we've paid in full but the only thing we can do now is reject 'em. I don't mind them taking 1-2 weeks but 3-4 is not on and the lack of a delivery date is REALLY not on. mu71rd
yeah i guess I've not got quite as much to complain about as you, except that obviously I know how long you've had to wait, and the lack of information only serves to make me assume I'll have the same. They've actually got their reputation on the line here, so it's in their interest to sort it out. They must make profit on the transport costs - probably by using cheap people. I will write a slightly stroppy email tomorrow, and call him at lunch, but I think at the moment I can't complain too much. you have every right to complain as they've basically lied to you, and are taking the piss. maybe barraging them with emails and phone calls all week will be enough to get something done? other than flying out to Germany (which I can't do) anyone else on here got any suggestions about how to get things done in a sigutation like this? scotw
Murd, Lets just keep on top of them. By the way if I can get down there before you, will you notice if I swap my RCD300 for your 500 ?
spankit
I would phone the german dealer monday morning, to at least confirm that they have the cars at the dealership!!!
scotw
you know, that did occur to me. But I do have a piccy including the VIN, so I'm pretty sure its there. Don't think taht there's anything underhand going on, just that they are taking their time, most likely to save money somehow.
spankit
K, so ask the dealer direct why the car is not in transit. What is the real hold up.
