harminder
Hi guys, Does anyone know that if I buy S3 front and rear BOSE speakers, can I update them for my current S3 speakers? My current head unit is a Concert stereo and standard speakers. Just wandering if the speakers alone would improve sound? Also how hard would it be to change the speakers over? Tomk
this has been discussed many many times, if you want better quality go for an aftermarket head unit and speakers, will sound 110x better than the bose system ( im my oppinion its rubbish ) in my a3 ive replaced all 4 factory speakers, rebuilt the sub to house a 5" sub and put an amp in the rear, its much much better
craigyb
If you put BOSE speakers in, you also need the amp and extra wiring, you loom will not be carrying the front line outs to the BOSE amp.
A3Floyd
Like others have said, it's not worth the effort retro-fitting Bose. The Bose setup on the a3/s3 isn't that great; i've had both Bose and standard and though the Bose is certainly loud, i prefered the standard setup. If you want to upgrade then you're much better off going for aftermarket stuff rather than the Bose. You could always keep your headunit and just upgrade the speakers and maybe add a small amp and sub in the boot? Blaupunkt do a neat sub unit that you can put under your seats. It's not mega-powerful but it works well enough. I had one in my old Saxo and was pleased with it. Personally, I didn't want to mess with the concert HU in my S3 cos i thought the aftermarket units didn't look so good in the dash.
harminder
OK guys thanks for the response.. Basically the speakers in my car sound OK but what I really want is some deep Bass to travel through my bones.. I used to have a 12inch Sub in my previuos car (brought with the car) and I miss the extra bass I used to have.. I want to stick with standard concert HU.. Is there any way I can upgrade the sub (with box) in the rear of the car with something more powerful? Also if the sub is to be upgraded then I take it a decent amp is required? Any ideas guys for Sub (with box) and amp to fit in existing place? I am very new to this and to be honest I am working on a budget..
A3Floyd
I've seen a retrofitted sub in the rear quarter of an S3. It looked really neat but from what i know, it wasn't easiy. is there any way of modofying the existing sub box? The Bose sub box is pretty much the same as the standard sub box bar the twin grills - i assume it's just a beefier speaker and amp in the same box? might be worth looking at maybe? You could in theory rip out the gubbins of the standard sub and plonk a nice new sub speaker in and wedge one of those small amps in down the side? [/ QUOTE ] You've just hit the nail on the head Just wandering if anyone has had the same thing done? Does anyone know anyone that could build the box for the sub in the rear quarter? Worth an investigation me thinks!
neo283
Sorry, bit off the subject, but love the Carlsberg peeking through on the corner of that pic! Seriously though, I'd love to replace the stock speakers in my A3. I'm happy with the sub as it's something I've never had the pleasure of in the first place, but more clarity and quality would be nice. PlusI rekon I've blown one of the rear speakers! Anyboody got any suggestions what makes/sizes fit best as a direct replacement for front & rear? Heard that the Audi speakers have 3 point mounts as opposed to the usual 4? Tomk
um yes has it been done , um yes by me ! built a box that was a direct swap for hte standard one, rememebr though you cant drive a sub without a new amp, you will have to lose your standard head unit , i think with a headunit 4 speakers, amp and sub you could do it all for £600 ish look in the gallery under my name , ive got pictures of my sub box and install
johnss8
If your putting new speakers in the door check the amount of air space behind the speaker because speakers that need a lot air will sound crap, i've gone for jl audio in mine or the new alpine range sound quite good. Chillihead
Hi, just received front and rear BOSE speakers (Wehey) £40.00 Ebay. Will they work without BOSE amp? If not, does anyone know why. Inpedance etc seems compatible with HU (Concert mki)
Hudson
New to the forum after just purchasing an A6 2.8 Quattro Tip with Bose system. Before i got the car i had a Passat with a reasonably expensive aftermarket system : Genesis A3 2 CH amp for the two front Focal 165k2 speakers. I had a Genesis A6 powering the Diamond Audio Macdaddy 10''sub. The sub was built into the boot and the amps put into a false floor in the boot. Although the system went a lot lower in terms of bass than the Bose i can honestly say that the overall sound for 90% of the listening time was not a great deal better than on my current Bose system. The Bose for all people say of it can give a very pleasant overall sound and is way better than a standard non amplified system with no separate bass unit. corindm
well i've finished my upgrade....I fitted MB quart (have had these in previous cars). I ended up using the old speaker as a mounting adapter by removing the cone and magnet, not as complicated as it sounds. Anyway....has fixed the quality issue, no amp needed and no more painful sound.
