aswall
I assumed you were joking, there's not much hope of having a towbar fitted now!
RedRobin
Jay....If you look above to the pic I posted with #541173 you'll see that the circular access panel to the towing loop is there.

RedRobin
Ah! Aswell I missed the joke and thought that Jay meant the tow loop fitted behind the rear 'bumper'. EDIT: Confusion! He does mean that one and so all is answered.

RedRobin
[ QUOTE ] evening robin, is it still accesable? [/ QUOTE ] Well I'm glad to say that I have yet to find out. But my bodyshop are VW approved and were aware of it, so no problem.
jason_s
spoke to awsome yesterday and they said they have one rear valance for the quads left in stock. might pay for it now so its ready and waiting all painted by the time i pick up the car. youve also made me think of not bothering with the resonated system. although it will sound louder with the high flow sports cat. jason_s
might ask awsome to look into this before they fit it
jason_s
ok, can see on your 2nd picture by the right twin pipes the removable section is clear. i should look before i speak
RedRobin
....I recommend you ask Milltek about the combination of Hi-Flow Sports Cat with Non-resonated or Resonated and take their advice about efficiency and performance - This should be considered as more important than the loudness or sound. Either way, all Millteks sound good according to all reports. Order via Awesome (Andy plus my name Robin for a deal) but advice from Milltek (Phil or John know their onions!). jason_s
its ok red, have spoken to them and i trust their advice. its really hard to make a decision without actually hearing them though. motorway drone may be a problem esp if im going across europe next summer. and now youve said their not too loud its got me wondering about how bad the motorway drone will be and how much it will change with time. spoke to awsome and they said that if you fit the resonator after then the whole exhaust system has to come off. shouldnt be put off by this as its nothing major to do i guess, maybe a little more money thats all. RedRobin
I know what you mean....The sound is subjective. I'm thinking of testing for any 'drone' by holding about 3,500 revs for a few miles on the A303 tomorrow now the fuel 'shortage' appears to be sorted. I'll report accordingly if I go (it's 40 minutes of twisties just to reach the A303). Even if I could record the sound it wouldn't really inform you accurately enough of the volume/level inside the car. What's "not too loud" for me might be too loud for someone else or vica versa. I'm not happy unless I can hear an engine regardless of the vehicle I'm driving - cars or vans or pickups. I've always been that way.
OzGTI
Red, Looks the business with the Millteks - have to see what we can do down here. Fitted my previous A3T with a pair of Remus pipes. Too few GTI's around yet to get too excited about after market bits - just 300 or so cars landed in Oz to date and only about 450 due before Christmas in total. Still I'm looking for some Christmas present ideas - so why not lash out on the car?!
RedRobin
Hi Oz - I understand Remus are made in Austria but assume there are stockists in Oz. No idea how they compare with Milltek. Anyone else here at TSN who know about Remus exhausts? Milltek could ship I'm sure but the products weigh a lot and so shipping would not be cheap. Santa needs a big stocking....Merry Christmas!!
RedRobin
Hi Oz....I forgot to say that I noticed we have a similar spec car: DSG Tornado Red on 17s and sunroof Five door too? That combination gives a good ride but don't they all ride well! Robin
jamiey
Silly question I know, but does catback mean the exhaust is replaced after the cat. So the cat is still in place?
RedRobin
Not silly, jamiey....Basically the answer is Yes - so that your car remains legal. Go to this addy and download Milltek Sport Brochure as a PDF and you'll read the full picture. Milltek are always helpful if you've got any phone queries. http://www.millteksport.com//downloads.cfm
allanon_1980
well when I was ordering my exhaust from milltek peter there recommended a resonated exhaust because he told me there would be a certain amount of motorway drone with the non res version, so i took his advice. [/ QUOTE ] ....I spoke to Peter too and but he wasn't quite so definite about M'way drone as I understood him - More of a probability than a certainty. But it wouldn't be the first time I have misunderstood English! I'm going to test for drone on the A303 as soon as I can - today or tomorrow. My experience with Non-res on dual carriageway so far has been that I can hear the constant sound only when using the throttle and I personally have no problem if I have to hear more of the engine. The levels are such that it's simply not likely to be a big issue (for me). I imagine the sound is sweet outside the car but that is very secondary. I could always hear my straight-six BMW at a similar level as now - I missed that sound until now.
RedRobin
Raining cats and dogs here plus very windy....Daughter needs a lift and my assistance on her Mac....Probably no time to test for drone today. Tomorrow is another day.
OzGTI
Red, Yes very similar spec. All Aussie GTI's are 5 door. The R32 when it arrives in about a year will be 3 door only. Small market therefore VW have to be carefully with the diferentiation I guess. We now have the option of 'euro' style plates. My current registration is TOB 618 - but now with the 'euro' plates I can actually register the car in the same format or similar format to yours - VW 05 RED??. I'm seeing whether this combination is available at the moment. Cost is about 150 quid. Not usually into that sort of thing but this car is special.
