Snoopy
[ QUOTE ] Good to see there are liars amongst us who reckon none of the above is relevant to them... [/ QUOTE ] Not revevent to me sorry. I own a number of cars including a multiple number of fiat panda's a couple of croma's which i even enjoy driving. Not to mension older british classics i have too. I have owned many looked down on cars in my time including citroen visa's, and many old bangers its never bothered me one bit, been lafted at by other drivers in car parks (mainly always BMW drivers i may add) but did not bother me one bit, It still amazes me to this day the way some people look at certain models of cars they have never even driven and have an opinion on them simply because of what the bias motoring press have said about them. NewNiceMrMe
So you can honestly say that not a single one of the poll questions applied to you?
PonchoJ
yeah.....i usually consider what the motoring press say (usually top gear lol) as bullshit. Nothing is more valueable than an unbiased opinion that isnt there to sell mags, tv or to entertain. the badge is less important than the country its made in. Its amazing how each country builds in their own way completely regardless of how independant the companies are from each other. its weird how jap cars all tend to be reliable, and german cars tend not to be. In the same way, german cars are built ruggedly, and tend not to rot away like british cars. A great way of telling a good car is by using carsurvey.org!! Snoopy
[ QUOTE ] So you can honestly say that not a single one of the poll questions applied to you? [/ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] The badge on my car is important to me. [/ QUOTE ] Not important i think owning panda's and cromas as well as citroen visas sort of proves it lol. [ QUOTE ] The engine size of my car is important to me. [/ QUOTE ] I have an 850 riley elf as well as a 998 riley elf mk2 so engine size again not really a huge concern. [ QUOTE ] I want people to look at my car. [/ QUOTE ] I rather they did not no actually its the main reason i love a good q car that blends into the background. Its also the reason i ruled alot of cars out when i picked my new one. [ QUOTE ] I want people to think I'm successful judging by the car I drive. [/ QUOTE ] Don't see how thats relivent to the car you drive i know some very sucsesful people who drive old bangers but spend there money on other things. [ QUOTE ] I'd take the model badge off a car so people didn't know it was 'low end'. [/ QUOTE ] Never done this mind have done it the other way for quite a few years and had my GTI mk1 badged as a GLS due to all the XR/RS boys hassling me and tealeafs in the 90s. [ QUOTE ] I would feel embarassed to walk to my car if others around me had better cars. [/ QUOTE ] Nope not bothered me this if im running a cheap car at the time its still transport that works. Infact the people that do look and laff have just probably lost the amount of money i paid for the car or spent on the car in the time it took for them to look and laff on there own blingbling motor. [ QUOTE ] I would lie about the car I drive if I knew no-one would find out. [/ QUOTE ] Never done this mind always had more than one car. I remember a time i was running a visa and someone asked what i was driving they sort of grinned when i told them a visa and then a friend that was with me at the time added to the discussion he also has a golf GTI though. [ QUOTE ] I view a car as a status symbol as well as transport. [/ QUOTE ] Never thought this never understood how it can be for example what one group of people things a great car alot of others will hate or have an opinion on. Never understood label clothers either but maybe thats just me. Infact i have found alot of people highup in buisness have cars that don't stand out for the fact they would rather not have the attension. [ QUOTE ] I think I could relate more to the driver of an expensive car than the driver of a much cheaper car. [/ QUOTE ] Price has nothing to do with the person imo. I have mates with very expensive cars and also mates that run £10 bangers i can relate to them all the same. [ QUOTE ] I think certain cars are 'beneath me' [/ QUOTE ] I would not say beneath me no but theres cars i've owned i would not own again as i did not like them. Waylander
For a few grand less than the money i spent on my A4 i could have got a Passat with all the trimmings includings options i didnt even want; wife was tempted [more roomy in the back than the A4 or 320d] but the badge was enought to stump up the higher price despite near identical engine, same crap VAG service folk etc etc.... Seems a slippery slope; i wouldn't mind buying a new Passat or another Honda but eyes seem more fixed on a Lexus as a "more appropriate" switch
runflat
Badge Snobbery is very dangereous...my parents switched from Lexus to Jaguar as they perceived this to be a 'step up'. They have never been so disappointed in a car as with the X-type they have presently. They are changing to a Honda as the quality (particularly interior) is much better than both the Jag and Lexus. Of course, my dad never took his eyes off my Audi whilst he was saying this
