2002 1.4TDI Polo Tyres + Recirculation Problem

Hi there I'm just wanting some advice regarding tyres for my 02 1.4TDI Polo. Since new it's had Continental Eco contacts all round, already gone through one set at the front due to wheel balancing problems, now at the 40,000 mile service it needs another set at the front.

Anybody got anything different on their Polo, frankly two sets of tyres on a 3 year old car stinks so am looking for something different.

Also on another note the recirculation mode on the car refused to work during the last year, switching it on lights the button for a few seconds then it goes off. Brought this up at last years service, brought it up again when i had a problem with the rear screen wash, no problems found.

Now the cars out of warranty i brought the issue up again, and blow me theyve found an issue with and i quote the "Temp Motor". Replacement part quoted price inc VAT £161.40. To say i was incenced is an understatement, can i take this issue up with VW, I've got documentation showing the times i brought the issue up, i frankly think its a pisstake them finding the issue now.

Brakes also need doing at £131.25 front, rears £115.32, as well as the service £240. Some advice would be appriciated, cheers.

Zoole, to me it doesn't sound inappropriate at all. The recirc problem aside, 2 sets of front tyres on a FWD car in 40,000 sounds about right to me, particularly if the car is a town car and doesn't belt up and down motorways all day.

Having the brakes done (again on a town car) around the 40-50k mark also doesn't sound unreasonable.

Well its the recirc thing that really annoyed me, saying again and again to them that its not functioning correctly and then suddenly them to say there is a problem and its going to cost you to fix just annoyed me. I'm not one to mess around with brakes and tyres, as long as you can stop your safe.

Zoole, whats the size of the tyre, and the full markings, ie 88W or 91Y, etc thats written round the side.

I'll have a peek on t'internet and see if I can find some that are harder wearing than the Eco's.

But as Shark says, 2 sest of tyres and 40k is good going. I'd be happy as larry if I could get away with 3 sets over 40k miles, its usually 4.

Plus get all your brake parts from EuroCar Parts, and either a) fit them yourself or b) get a local garage to do it.
