Ken1 Posted October 5, 2005 Report Share Posted October 5, 2005 Caught my key in the house front door on Monday morning and bent it, the stealer is quoting me €150 + Vat for the key and 1/2 hour labour for pairing they new key to the car !Ouch!! Any way it is only bent in one place and the key fits into the barrell up to the point where it is bent , my question is, has anybody tried to straighten a key in a vice say , or am I being penny wise and pound foolish as they say ? (i don't mean in the moral sense). if nothing else works, try wrapping the bent key in thick cloth and rag type material or even better if you can find 2 pieces of steel about the length and height of the key, sandwich the vw key in between the material, put it in a vice and twist away!!! gently of course...
