dazr32
soulboy funny you should say about the alarm because it apparently never went off, and it was in my father inlaws garage for two weeks with a fist sized hole in it and it never went off either. as for the fitting of the window i know what you mean about the cowboys and butchers they employ these days, but to be fair to the lad that came back today he has done a decent job, mind you his boss was here as well , i could be very picky and say it still is not exactly in the centre but it is 100% better than it was and i am being harsh.i did note the alarm didn't work though. Ian_C
[ QUOTE ] ....to be fair to the lad that came back today he has done a decent job, mind you his boss was here as well, i could be very picky and say it still is not exactly in the centre but it is 100% better than it was.... [/ QUOTE ] Had Weds off [in lieu of working today, Saturday] but a quick search on the system Thursday morning located you. Your Weds 'workmanship complaint' call was actually taken by one of my team colleagues (who is an absolute honey btw) and it appeared serious by the way you were transfered straight to Bangor judging by the notes she left on the system. Autoglass is already on the back foot before customers even call as our service is a grudge purchase. Daz, you for one were - totally understandably - fuming before you even called us! All bonded glass is a difficult to remove, but unlaminated heated rears are possibly the worst as they go absolutely everywhere upon removal due to bonded edges. Volkswagens decision to fit model-unique blue glass to the R32 sadly means a product rarity level alongside the A8 or Cayenne. 996s are common by comparison! A few other differences - such as the fiddly moisture pack, hatch rear spoliers and VWs inability to provide screens with vin notches that match the cars they have actually built - make the R32 a car you don't want to own come glass replacement. About the only time you'll ever wish you drove a drove 1.8T with the stock 8558AGNGYV 'green grey'.... This doesn't detract from the fact the original tech', quite new to Autoglass by the sounds of it, appears to have carried out a seriously substandard job on your R32 Daz. Relived to hear your heated rear has now been rectified. The original tech loses double points for his attempt and isn't allowed near a 8558B% again until his errors have been looked into and worked upon. Harsh perhaps, but we cannot afford to let anyone make the same mistake twice. dazr32
ian just want to say thanks very much for your help. you have took time out to look into various things and i really do appreciate it.i did manage to get most of the glass out before the original tech got here cos my next door neighbour gaffer taped it and 90% came off with that and then i hoovered as much of the rest as i could so he only had about half an inch where the bonding was attached round the screen. even though as much glass was removed as possible i expect that i will still be finding fragments in months to come, which cant be helped and is sadly a side effect of this type of vandalism. once again many thanks for your help, after the first job i was dissapointed to say the least with autoglass but the second tech did a very good job, so i think i just had a bad experience. in the unfortunate event that i had to have glass replaced again then i would use autoglass but i would keep a closer eye on the fitter. hotdog
Hows the car now Daz? Hopefully at least you've been able to use it this weekend. Mines stuck in the garage with an alarm fault Beautiful day for a drive as well
dazr32
today has been the first time in three weeks that i have been able to drive it with everything that has gone on. i had a dodge grand caravan in florida which suits the holiday perfectly with it being an automatic and all the seats for the kids to dive in and also with silent night suspension if you know what i mean. so it is good to drive the r again . i always amazes me the speed at which you can overtake in it , normal cars you indicate pull out straighten the wheel go past the car and then pull in but in these things it is all one quick movement and then you start grinning wider BEST MONEY I HAVE EVER SPENT. what are the symptoms with the alarm
hotdog
Good lad!! Glad you've been using the car to the max! We had a Chrysler Neon when we were in the States and it really was truly awful As for the Alarm, well you ain't gonna like this, but my Clifford has locked up so I can't go anywhere! And I managed to put a small scuff on the door shut AND I got called out today and the van decided to play silly buggers And relax
Ian_C
Cheers Daz, just doing my job really. Glad you had a good blast around in your R today! Gaffer tape is indeed a great idea as it holds the glass together and stops it flying everywhere. Ensure it doesn't flop out in one piece though as this would be potentially fatal for your paintwork - much worse than thousands of little cubes that have no weight individually. If anyone ever finds themselves in the situation of 'keys locked in car' then reach for the tape before smashing - don't forget to cover the door frame too. Front left is the one to go for - by far the most popular during break-ins hence much more likely to be in stock. Don't smash a bonded rear quarter like a Vectra driver did earlier in the week before calling. Opps! Ian
skifly
you should have heard the autoglass person on the phone when i called up to find out which windows they had in stock for a mondeo (brand new model just out) a while ago when i did the old keys in car trick!! To say they were confused was an understatement for something that must happen to you guys quite a lot. Although was quite happy about the employee friends and family thing on the insurance excess - saved me quite a bit when at uni and had car broken into 3 times (saw all of them too!!).
