MS Antispyware

don't know what you are talking about Thorburn - my XP has a valid key.

*ahem* i just don't like the idea of this MS nanny-state.

That being said, there is apparantly a FireFox plug-in which allows you to install Windows updates via it without need for IE - will track the link down in due course if anyone interested.

Vista - reinstalling a new [beta] OS for 120 days' sidestepping authentication is a bit extreme isn;t it?

My machine is not specced for Vista anyway - need a 3GHz processor, which i don't have.

Wonder if anyone who does have pirated-XP has seen what happens when they authenticate...

Defeating the new MS software validation stuff is easy - just do the following, and you can download XP updates etc.... not sure if it works with MS antispyware download yet, as I pulled that off another machine that is valid.

1. In IE, go into Tools -> internet options -> programs.

2. Click on "Manage Add-ons".

3. Highlight "Windows Genuine Advantage" and click "disable"

Simple, that's all there is to it. grin.gif

Si.

just to let you all know [tried it on a machine that i know of with a VLK

wink.gif] that this method only work with SP2 machines and Sp1 doesn't have the manage add-ons feature in IE and it blocks as Thornburn said.

There are javascripts that block it from running though.

For some bizarre reason Zone Alarm doesn't seem to stop this activex from running on said machine even though this should be another method...
