paffat
Hi, I have a 2000 1.8t 20v its started to make what sounds like a thrust bearing noise. Strangley not in first but usually as soon as you change to second and through the rest of them. still makes the noise when you dip the clutch and you can cruse along with foot on clutch with it still making noise. But of coarse when i try to pull up on the drive to inspect it it stops. Am i making any sense. Any body with any clues.
v23
What noise does a thrust bearing make? If it's a whining then get back to me. If not don't worry.
paffat
Any chance this could be the turbo as i read in a previous post?
v23
Like I said, what's the sound like and when does it happen? Is it a quite quiet whining, when coming off, going onto the clutch? Does it happen when you rev the engine out of gear? Also what model do you own and with which gearbox? It's not an 01 6 speed is it?
paffat
Its a 2000 pre face lift 1.8 turbo 5 speed man. It sounds exactly like a noisey thrust bearing. after it starts making the noise (usually in second accelerating) it will continue in or out of gear, foot on clutch or not. I cant make it do it when stationary, must be travelling.
