MK5 R32 Standard Seats

Please forgive the erratic postings of a new user.

I have been reading all the recent posts about the MK5 R32 and have one on order, build date week 9 - Diamond Black, manual, standard leather seats.

Does anyone have pictures of (or seen) the standard cloth seats – Monte Carlo? I can’t find any info and to be honest I have only selected leather in case the cloth is naff – I would probably prefer cloth and save the money if it looked OK.

Help appreciated..

There are 4 seating arrangements for the new R32,

Standard sports Cloth

Standard sports Leather (black or beige - although beige won't be coming to UK)

Cloth Recaro (Like the ones above)

Leather Recaro (like the ones above again, but in black leather)

The standard seats (cloth and leather) are exactly the same as the ones that are currently available for the GTI.

I'll try and dig up some pics

I dont usually like leather seats either. But on this occassion I have gone for the standard leather (confirmed order yesterday - no going back!) as I think the standard cloth ones dont suit an R32.

I would have gone for the cloth Recaros if they were heated. I still think they look half leather on the pics even though everyone has confirmed they are not.

My MkIV has the leather seats (wanted Alcantara but there you go) I saw a MkIV with cloth seats the other day and although the car had obviously been well cared for I was suprised how grubby the seats were (something had obviusly been spilt on the seats) I am not saying you are grubby but ease of cleaning may be a factor to consider - even saggy clean leather seats look better than grubby stained seats...

Many thanks for the replies. I think the pictures and your comments have convinced me to stick with standard leather, although the cloth in the GTi picture doesn’t look quite the same as the Monte Carlo material in the brochure? – Difficult to tell with a 1” square pic though.

Well, I've just got back from a trip to park my arse on some leather recaros. They were very nice, and I could fit as well, ( 15 stone) but for me they weren't that much better than the leather sport seats to justify the extra dosh. Although the backs are not as bad in the flesh, or plastic as it is , they look as though they could look pretty scuffed in a short space of time if you have regular reat seat users.

So, I'll be getting the leather sport seats, and spending the difference on a few tanks of Optimax.
