rallyman
Ok, this a question for ya! I have just emptied the coolant on my A4 1.8t quat, Is there some sort of special procedure that you must do when you are refilling it? As I am having difficulty refilling it with the amount of water and it will not circulate the water. Oh yes the red antifreeze...is it a must? or can you use the blue stuff in these engines? Heeeeelp! Many thanks Michael
Tobes49
Carry on using the red stuff, There should be a bleed on one of the heater hoses, Remove the bulkhead plastic pannel (might not have one, you dont say what year) You will see the 2 heater pipes one will have a small hole in with some white paint on, Remove the pipe just enough to let some air and water come out then refit, remember you will have to keep the exp tank full as poss when doing this! run the engine with the cap off for about 3-5min with the heater on hot, then refit the cap and everything should be sorted. Some later A4's have a bleed screw in the top metal hose, so have a check to see if you have one.
kerbside
...and if you use hot water, the thermostat will open earlier and you won't have to spend so long working on the car! Personally, I would run the car with the cap off until the cooling fan came on, just to be sure.
