DVD Review: The Devils Rejects

The is a bit late coming as I watched it about 2 weeks ago.

The cover titles on this film tell you it's the most blood thirsty and terrifying film you are ever likely to see.

To set the scene without giving much away it is based on a family in the USA who have some of the most macabre, horrifying, murderous and evil streaks running right through them. These include sexual depravity in which they seem to enjoy shagging corpes (not that you see it happening, but it's made very evident).

Heads in fridges, body parts all over the place, so on and so forth. Ya know, your general hillbilly stuff...

However, well, it's a let down.

The plot just isn't very strong at all (this is a sequel by the way) and whilst the acting is all very strong, well it just left me thinking that it had never really got started.

The blonde girl in the family is well worth one, but apart from that theres not much to get excited about.

The police overplay their parts in deliberate fashion, the killings that you see aren't actually very gruesome at all (certainly not by a lot of other film standards) and, well, I just don't know how it attained some of the reviews it did from the press.

There are some genuinely disturbing scenes when you feel sorry for those involved, especially the one of the people they hold hostage for a short while in the Motel (with a predictable outcome for the poor hostages).

The end is very much of a disappointment too.

So I'm not going to go into a great deal more detail, other than to say it's nothing like you might think it sounds, or indeed like it's titles make it out to be, and you're better off leaving it on the shelf in the shop.

Score: 4/10
