encee
Wow, very impressive Ian. You appear to be VERY knowledgable on this subject. Could you, or anyone else tell me the difference, if there is any, of "clutch power" and "wheel power". ? I had my GTI re-mapped at Awesome a few days ago, and the printout of the graph, that Jim has given me, shows "clutch power". Okay, I understand power at the crank, and power at the wheels; both of which I`ve heard on numerous occasions, but I`ve never heard of clutch power. Anyone enlighten me, please ? Daemon
Clutch power and crank power should be the same thing. The clutch is attached to the flywheel which is attached directly to the crank. I prefer power at the wheels (and all chassis dynos actually measure power or torque at the wheels, and then various correction factors are applied to calculate crank hp), because it represents what's actually making it to the ground. A 4wd car and a 2wd car may both make 250hp at the crank, but chances are the 2wd car with lower drivetrain loss is going to put more of it to the ground, and thus be faster. ian
Golfgirl
Only just seen this post! Thanks Matt for posting up the graph and video for me I saw your car there and recognised it but couldn't remember whose it was. I had to leave early too so never saw it on the rollers. I was pleased with my results 214.42bhp at the wheels and 220.9 lb/ft. It will be quote a bit higher next time though because I've been spending money
