jcoles7
Hi All, I have done 450 miles and ever since I got the car when you use the washers to start with it trickles out then I get a normal spray. Anyone else have this issue ? Someone I know told me it may be a faulty non return valve. Any Ideas ?? The headlamp and rear screen washers are ok. Cheers in advance Jason Coles
ucjtckc
Same thing happens on mine. Didn't happen on my old MKIV. Got my car booked in for some warranty work next week so may ask them to take a look.... Be interested to hear if anyone else has the problem/feature
skifly
yup - same problem here - takes a while to get the spray going first time.
RedRobin
And on mine too. I actually thought it was normal behaviour so I think the question we now need to ask is who has washer jets which pee strongly on the first go?
mikemod
Same thing here, so looks like normal operation.
allanon_1980
yup same as mine You get used to it !!
AlanH
Half a tab of Viagra in the wash bottle might be worth a try
mikemod
Maybe it's to allow the heated washer jets time to heat up and even if you don't have them the delay is still there.
Rayza
Yep same here too
rs32
mine does the same. could it be because the washer reservoir is held so low-down in the front section ?
skifly
or simply to let water drain out of the nozzles just in case it freezes and cracks the jets?
anthonyess
Same on mine.
scillyisles
Same on mine and it's a big annoyance because dry wipers across a dirty screen is bound to result in scratched windscreen sooner or later.
ucjtckc
Hmmm, so far it's looking like poor design then.
mikemod
[ QUOTE ] Same on mine and it's a big annoyance because dry wipers across a dirty screen is bound to result in scratched windscreen sooner or later. [/ QUOTE ] My wipers don't start until the washers have started squirting so no problem there.
RedRobin
Same here, I get only a small squirt initially but the wiper does not run on a dry screen.
scillyisles
The wipers start after the washers have made their attempt at a first squirt which inevitably is a dribble unless you've used the washers recently. So whilst some of the screen is wet you don't get a uniform wet screen for your wipers to glide over and remove the dirt. So if you think you're not going to get a scratched windscreen particularly at this time of the year I think you're going to be disappointed. peugeot6
Hi guys, no problem here in sunny New Zealand. Maybe it is your cold English winters. Our climate in Auckland is very mild and I have had no problem in winter with the washers they work perfectly and give the screen a good dousing before the wipers spring into action. Cheers
lagrian
I Just went and checked my car I was curiuos as I hadn't even noticed this. 1. Turn on ignition. 2. First pull of lever, strong pee to 66% up then on to wide spray after 1-2 seconds then wiper kicks in with whole window covered. 3. Second Pull of lever straight to wide spray and all other sprays after that. Something's there by design, to what purpose I don't have a clue. I think it might be to do with the heated washer jets or maybe to just concentrate water on the main area of the windscreen before an initial wipe. Rayza
I checked mine too and is exactly as you say Lagrian.
Snoopy
[ QUOTE ] Hmmm, so far it's looking like poor design then. [/ QUOTE ] I would not say that if the pipes not full of water 24/7 its less likley to freeze in winter.
scillyisles
Don't think so - other cars don't have this problem so presumably they have water in the pipes ready to go. Whether the water in the pipes or windscreen washer bottle freezes is a function of how much "antifreeze" screenwash ayou've put in the water rather than where it is. Lower temperatures require more concentrated screenwash.
SMB
i suspect it's simple gravity, with the washer unit being down in the front, the water drops back a little and when you activate it, it needs a time to pump the water up to pressure. Try to use twice quickly after another, and the water level will still not have had time to drop back. Personally I found the screen gets water before the blades move. bodger00
Not experienced this problem but how annoying is the final wipe of the wash windscreen operation. Ive just got the screen nice and clean and the last wipe smudges again....
DemonNite
im sure i read in the manual that the AC will switch to air recirculation mode when the washer is in use...to stop the smell of the washer fluid from getting into the car. The pause could well be this kicking so its all by design. ...just checked in the manual and it notes this on page 52 of the controls & equipment booklet
