blix
have any of you blokes noticed any difference in fuel used since youve had your cars re-mapped ? better fuel economy or worse. i have a 210 bhp s3 and know that you fellas with the 225 seem too get more miles to the gallon also optimax ? does this make your cars run better or is this a load of
Paul
HERE mines certainly no worse. It can actually improve consumption, as long as your not driving it like you stole it. I feed it and previous S3 exclusively Optimax. The car has the ability to make the most of the fuel and adapt. Even Audi state in the manual , that you can run the car on 95, but performance will be reduced.
blix
i am going to fill up on optimax and see if this makes a difference to performance best way i suppose.also do you turn off your traction control when when you have to punish some cheeky ford focus and the like
Avus_Bub
As Paul says, If you drive normally then you should see an improvement. If you use all the extra performance all the time then buy some Shell shares A4 fuel link BUB
Paul
esp stays on. it will take a couple of tank fulls of fuel for the car to adapt.
Hector-8
my mpg has increased.i thought it would be the opposite.but iv read all the comments on here but remaps and seems to be the same with every1.
BenjaminTDI
If you re-map a car of course the economy will improve if you drive it the same as you did when it was standard as there is more torque available at any given RPM meaning the engine doesn't have to work as hard to maintain any given speed. Expect gains of 2-5mpg under the same driving circumstances. As you'll discover though, your fuel consumption is likely to get worse (mine certainly has) as you tend to boot it quite a bit more when you've re-mapped. fingermouse
I had lost about 30 miles to a tank since the remap but on my last 2 tanks im back to where I was approx. I think its just a case of when I drive hard I drive as hard as the car will go so with the remap that uses more fuel. I have found on long trips that if I keep the reves to below 3k then the fuel econ is best. But as I sit in 6th at 3.5 - 4k then im seeing a slight drop in fuel econ on long trips as well. oh as for the esp its off from a standing start and on roundabouts
blix
filled up on optimax today and got some literature on the stuff how sad is that.says that it actually cleans the valves of deposits and improves performance.so you reckon it will take a few tankfulls before i should notice some improvement.used to own an a4 1.8qt that had been chipped i think at aston green audi all the power used to come in one great big blob so much it used to torque steer!used to turn the esp off every time i got in the car more fun that way i thought
Paul
will take a couple of tankfuls for the car to recognise and adapt. way i understand it, the car will adapt down to lesser performance on poorer quality fuel quite quickly, but takes more time to adapt back up to make use of better quality fuel. blix
paul why do you keep your esp on.i know its safer but i think you can feel the car a bit more
Paul
Its a safety device. I find the car far far more predictable with it on. Ive had 2 225 S3's now both modded and getting upto 60K miles in total between them both and thats how i prefer it. Much better on, as intended. s3geezer
I notice much better fuel economy with Optimax - I get and extra 40 miles out of a tank. but I do motorway driving all the time. I always keep ESP on too. It kicked in once around a roundabout in the wet but I wasn't even hooning it - well i was a bit but I didn't lose grip or slide so I don't know why it came on - maybe the car was about to I dunno... My car is standard - at the moment.....
Paul
Ive had it completely sideways 4x4 drift on a wet greasy roundabout, when i forgot esp was off. ESP off is for when you really should be behaving better.
s3geezer
Heh heh - bet it was fun though!!
Paul
It did look good, and after inital shock it was quite impressive, but certainly wasnt intentional. I wanted to boot off fast out the exit, instead i went round the roundabout 3/4 of the way sideways drift. Esp off can really catch you out, far more than esp on. Wallachie
I switch mine off quite a lot, I find it cuts in far too much, especially when exiting junctions. The roads are terrible in and around Edinburgh, and the ESP goes crazy on rough road surfaces.
blix
i notice on the new rs4 you can turn esp off in stages or completely off. dont think its possible to completely turn all the driver aids off in any other audi.which i think is a shame judging by all the reviews its getting it must be awesome to drive.even clarkson likes it. dont know if thats a good thing or not though ?
