aditz
Hello boys and girls, Just noticed that the coolant temperature goes below 90 degrees Celsius even after a good driving time. I also noticed that this happens after turning ON or OFF the Climatronic instrument. It doesn't go above 90 degrees Celsius but I've seen it going down to about 75 degrees Celsius. How much should I worry??
Pastit130
Could be a sticky thermostat. Stuck open the coolant keeps circulating so the engine never gets up to temperature.
aditz
That was my first guess too. But want a few more opinions... Cheers!
mulkbear
do the heaters get hot ? if they do i would suspect the coolant temp sensor
pugboy
As soon as mine is warmed up it sits half way (90?)no matter what the conditions. All the other similar VW's of recent times I've driven have been the same.
aditz
pugboy, yeah that's normal, but with my car lately it goes up to 90 or close even after a 30minutes to an hour drive. But like I said before If I play around with the climatronic instrument (ON/OFF or ECON/AUTO) goes to normal of 90. Now whether is the climatronic or the coolant sensor, I don’t know. Hmmmm...Puzzled
pugboy
Check your carpet's are not wet. Perhaps the matrix has gone.
aditz
pugboy, The carpets are not wet, but what are you referring to, when you say MATRIX. Forgive my stupidity please!
gazthecab
Heater matrix I would guess.
v23
This is very probably something to do with the coolant temperature sender being faulty. Apparently a relatively common fault on Passats but also something which is relatively easily and cheaply fixed. Do a search for temperature gauge, you should find my old thread regarding this which has some pretty useful info posted in it.
v23
aditz, did you manage to get this sorted? If so how? I'm having the same/a similar problem now.
