R32North
Ok, so the plug light comes on and I get a raspy-gargle type noise for a second before I turn the key. It sounds like its coming from under the car, engine bay area, drivers side, low to the ground. Is this normal, doesn't sound like it and anyone have any info on such a noise? Car runs fine, drives fine, MPGs good, no dash lights, etc etc etc. TA!
Rustynuts
Sounds like the fuel system has a bit of air in it. Our last Bora did this every morning, and the new one doesn't. When you tur the key to the glow plug position, the fuel pump it the tank primes the system.

I'll get that checked out then. Did you get it sorted or just leave it and then got the new Bora?
BenjaminTDI
Sure it's not just the glow plugs coming on or the fuel pump getting ready? I have a funny noise on mine thats like a gurgle when i turn ignition on. It's the same on all VAG diesels I've driven.
Bounce
My golf TDI has a gurgle also, i did wonder what it was, but didn't think it sounded like anything bad.
Rustynuts
Brett, it didn't cause any problems, and I never got it looked at. Eventually, when the wife destroyed the engine and we sold the remains it wasn't a problem any more.

[/ QUOTE ] Might be a newer VAG diesel thing as my old Audi doesn't do it and hasn't for the 24k mile/ 2 years I've owned it. ALso, it did it this morning (when cold) but not this evening when coming home or gain when I started it in the drive. Must be a cold start thing.!!! Sparky
Mine does something like that sometimes. But not always. It's not a gurgle in my case, but like when something is being passed through a pipe quickly and until it is full, which is as Rustyballs says, to do with the pump priming the system. More of a whoosh/whir than a gurgle.
R32North
Wasn't there all day, until I went out about 6:30pm to go shops and it came back. Guess I'll live with it unless it cause an actual problem.
UBM
It's the fuel pump priming. Mrs UBMs 150 GTTDI does it every time. Apparantly the valve is near the drivers seat, which is why you can hear it so loudly!

RossG
I noticed it everytime the car was started from cold. It did it from new, and never gave me any cause for concern. I sure I saw a pot about it on Briskoda a couple of years back when everyone's car was new, and the general consenseous was that they all did it and it was the fuel pump priming or something... Ross.
