rotarynut
VW is now running commercials featuring "FAST" this black evil GTI rabbit (and giving our figurines to GTI owners). I wonder if this ad campaign is being used worldwide? There's 4 commercials out as far as I know. golfmkv has them online. http://www.golfmk5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=
DSGTi
"It" is being used in the US market. Personally, I don't care for the ad campaign. I'm sure it might appeal to a younger guy, seem's I'm no longer that younger guy. To me the car speaks for itself. I remember the old days of the GTI. The adds stressed the capabilities of the GTI not the "attitude". TT
jacknelle
One thing about FAST that is evil and thats the prices he is attracting on eBay! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/VW-GTI-Mk...038790935QQrdZ1 The accompanying DVD sounds interesting though.... nhs
LOL - that's marketing for you! A zillion miles from the sophisticated image trying to be created in Europe...
spankit
The white gti looks stunnung on 18"s. Think the 'old skool' colours work best on the mkv gti. Imho red, white or black with 18"s is the way to go

Kind of goes against the subtle image of GTI in my opinion. They look damn good though!

Snoopy
As you can see what were the original colours its amazing how many people get it wrong. Something i always liked was there was really nothing fitted to the Mk1 GTI that did not really have an Engineering reason to be there or to keep it legal. This is why it never got a roof spoiler or side skirts etc like alot of its rivals had at the time. As there was no engineering reason to fit them so they were not fitted, looks yes but an engineering reason no. I always liked that VW were different and did that back then
spankit
Trying to figure why i have white as an old skool colour etch into my head! To be honest I am racking my brain (the little i have) and on reflection i've never seen a white mk1 gti. However, I am sure back in the day I have seen a number of white Mk11 conv golfs. hmmmm where the feck did white come from, ummm pugs, xr3's beats me
Snoopy
White was available in the UK later on not long after the restyle(mk1 series 2 cars) and was very popular in 1982 and 1983 on the Mk1 1.8 GTIs.
Snoopy
Oh and in the late 70s and early 80s it was popular to import your GTI from Germany as the Exchange rates made it a fantastic deal. When i was looking for my present Mk1 in 1990 i went to see many that were originally personal imports and also quite a few that were white. A mate of mine had a white late mk1 GTI. Tarmac_Terrorist
I've seen it in Cand White and it looks great. I was torn between a white or a red one myself. The only thing that put me off white was future resale value. Most cars suffer badly for being white, though perhaps the Golf is different because it's a retro kind of thing which harks back to the mk1. I do still sometimes think I should have ordered a white one.

RedRobin
I don't usually like white cars at all but the Mk5 GTI looks great in Candy White. I saw one near Taunton a few weeks ago.
Snoopy
Im with Red on this one. I normally hate white cars but theres a few i quite like. Mk1 GTI and Mk5 GTI in white i quite like, Theres a white 3 door one round here and for some reason its the only GTI colour i don't think the 17s look slightly small on.
