Is FAST the evil GTI rabbit being used worldwide?

"It" is being used in the US market.

Personally, I don't care for the ad campaign.

I'm sure it might appeal to a younger guy, seem's I'm no longer that

younger guy. smile.gif

To me the car speaks for itself. I remember the old days of the GTI. The adds stressed the capabilities of the GTI not the "attitude".

The white gti looks stunnung on 18"s. Think the 'old skool' colours work best on the mkv gti. Imho red, white or black with 18"s is the way to go 169144-ok.gif

You could say that the 18s go against the old school image, though. The old GTIs were never about having massive alloys. Kind of goes against the subtle image of GTI in my opinion. They look damn good though!

To tell you the truth i had forgot what exact colours were available before 1979 blush.gif shocking i know, I had an idea just could not be 100%, So i asked people in the know, This is the responce.

1976 MY: Senegal Red, Diamond Silver

1977 MY: Mars Red, Diamond Silver

1978 MY: Mars Red, Diamond Silver, Black, Alpine White(Germany only)

1979 MY: Mars Red, Diamond Silver, Black, Alpine White(Continent only), Inari Silver(Continent only)

Another funny point on the subject of alloys, the really early mk1 series 1 cars had steel wheels as standard.

As you can see what were the original colours its amazing how many people get it wrong.

Something i always liked was there was really nothing fitted to the Mk1 GTI that did not really have an Engineering reason to be there or to keep it legal. This is why it never got a roof spoiler or side skirts etc like alot of its rivals had at the time. As there was no engineering reason to fit them so they were not fitted, looks yes but an engineering reason no.

I always liked that VW were different and did that back then pengy.gif

Trying to figure why i have white as an old skool colour etch into my head! To be honest I am racking my brain (the little i have) and on reflection i've never seen a white mk1 gti. However, I am sure back in the day I have seen a number of white Mk11 conv golfs.

hmmmm bike.thumb.gif where the feck did white come from, ummm pugs, xr3's beats me Flush.gif

Oh and in the late 70s and early 80s it was popular to import your GTI from Germany as the Exchange rates made it a fantastic deal. When i was looking for my present Mk1 in 1990 i went to see many that were originally personal imports and also quite a few that were white.

A mate of mine had a white late mk1 GTI.

I've seen it in Cand White and it looks great. I was torn between a white or a red one myself. The only thing that put me off white was future resale value. Most cars suffer badly for being white, though perhaps the Golf is different because it's a retro kind of thing which harks back to the mk1. I do still sometimes think I should have ordered a white one. confused.gif

I think the white looks great too, which is why I've ordered the black jump.gif

Seriously, the white may have issues on resale (although I doubt it), but the main reason was keeping the bugger clean, but then a black car isn't easy to keep clean...oh bugger frown.gif
