minesimported
Hi all, I've got a gorgeous Mk IV Golf GT TDI 130, I'am trying to keep cost's down by doing the oil change myself. Can anyone tell me where and how to locate and change the filter? Last Golf was MkIII 1.6 petrol and all seem so simple then! Look forward to any advice. allroadman
Should look out for a large round cover with hex edging which is the top of the oil filter housing unscrew it and the paper filter is under there. don't forget to change the rubber o ring. Rustynuts
First up, don't look underneath the car. Open the bonnet, and it's sited vertically on the front of the engine just behind the radiator. The filter is a cartridge type which drops into the housing and the cover goes over the top, rather than the usual "spin on" canister type. minesimported
Thanks for the Info. Can you recommend any particular oil?
Rustynuts
Depends on the service regime you're on. 10k miles service is 505.01 oil/ 5w 40 weight, and variable (long) service is 506.01 oil/ 0w 30 weight. Whatever oil you use must be to either of these standards. For variable, longlife, I'd use Fuchs Titan supersyn 0w 30.
minesimported
Again, thanks for the advice, I will be changing the oil every 6 months unless this is overdoing it. Have you any ideas on faulty heated seats, I've checked the fuses and they seem O.K.?
