R32 Vs VR6

I owned a mkIII VR6, and I guess the R32s are an evolution of it in many ways. The basic engine is largely the same, just been slowly developed over the years.

In the VR6 you had a 2.8L 12V producing 178bhp, and you only got front wheel drive and 5 gears. The suspension was softer as the car like its successor the V6 4motion was aimed to be a long distance crusier.

The mkiv V6 4motion (which I also owned) got a 24V head, 204bhp, 6 gears and 4wd. but was still a bit soft and the wood trim perhaps shows its intended market.

The mkiv R32 got an xtra few ccs @ 3.2L, 240-250bhp, and proper sporty suspension, steering and bodykit. The mkv R32 has basically same engine in the new bodyshell.

So I definately think you can trace the development back through the older models, VW have perhaps shifted the idea from relaxed tourer to sporty hot hatch, but the idea of a large engine in a small(ish) car is still the same which is why I love em
