New PDA Required

Recommended Posts

UBM - make sure you get something with Windows Mobile 2005 on it - it is a great OS for the PDA - more intuitive! Just check that TT5 will run ok on it......

Have a look on http://www.expansys.com/ as they are generally the cheapest around. I am not a Dell fan, as i know too well via our business about the reliability (or lack of it)......

The above site also does all the brackets / charger options etc. you will need for the install. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions and i will try my best to help you out - it's my field of work in a round about fashion!! 169144-ok.gif

Dell's reliability isnt any worse than anyone elses - indeed the Axim is OEM'd by the same companies that make everyone elses pda's.

no it aint. There is virtually nothing in the Axim that is manufactured by HTC to the best of my knowledge. wink.gif

Dell manufacture the Axim all off their own back and do very well out of it! Most PDA's (XDA's / SPV's etc) are manufactured by HTC in taiwan and are generally branded differently by the phone company..... the ROM's used on the PDA's are a combination of windows software and some (sometimes handy!!) little extras from the phone company, includeing corporate colours and logos etc. Dell uses it's own ROM, generated form their US base.

In terms of reliability, it is more an issue with Dell desktop PC's, but their PDA's aint perfect, but then who's are....!?? Good value for money, as all Dell kit is!

The SPV M600 is out soon and that's running Windows 2005. It's the smallest Phone/PDA around and supposed to be very good. Just an opinion.

Oh and you do need the little GPS box and to keep the PDA plugged in when using SatNav. I have one on my M500 which runs CoPilot Live 6. I've never had a problem with it. The SPV range is top notch. 169144-ok.gif

SPV M600 or Imate Jammin in its oem form is out soon yes, should be a cracking handset. I currently have the Imate Jam and am going to upgrade to the Jammin when its available. As far as I can tell Orange are going to be the 1st network to bring this to the uk market place calling it the SPV M600.

TomTom 5.2 will run on the new MS Mobile software, just need the update patch from TomToms website to help install it.

Cheers

Matt

I've got the X51v and its a great bit of kit, use it for all sorts of things for work - have forund Windows Mobile to be pretty user friendly..

One thing though, make sure you enable the bluetooth permanently, othwise the thing locks up and you have to do a hard reset, not ideal if you need info of it in a hurry!

This is a known bug, but Dell have now released new system software.

If you aren't aware already, Have a look here for usefull info http://aximsite.com/
