neiltrowbridge
Hi, Does anyone know the standard speaker sizes in the doors of a B7 A4 Avant? I'm also interested in what can be made to fit in. Thanks,
timps
It’s the same as the B6 IIRC & it is any 165mm (6.5”) speaker As in this post HERE you will have to make or buy an adapter plate. The Audi speaker has an adapter plate moulded on & is one unit. You could cut the Audi speaker out of this adapter & use that (I have seen this done but the Audi speaker will be destroyed in the process) or in my case make a similar one out of mdf. The standard Audi speaker is 165 mm (6.5”) but the moulded adapter plate makes it stand proud from the door. The space between the door & the door panel card is sufficient for a lot of leeway in the adapter plate to accommodate most makes, but you will need something. The tweeter just pushed in where the Audi one went. For the rear my tweeter was smaller so I used some tape to make a tight fit. Don’t forget to disconnect the Audi centre speaker This fits in mine Hope this helps Craig
neiltrowbridge
Excellent. Thanks for that. I've ordered a pair of Focal PolyK 165K2P and I had a sudden worry that the might not fit, but it sounds like they will so thats ok. I'll probably buy some adaptor plates and then cover them in Dynamat Extreme to strengthen and stop them rattling. Cheers,

neiltrowbridge
I've had various Focal speakers before (PolyGlass, PolyKevlar, Utopia), but for the music I play, I much prefer the K2P range. They can take that bit more power while retaining sound quality. Had a pair of K2P's in my previous car along with 3 x 5WS 5" subs in the passenger footwell and 2 x JL 12W3v2 subs, all run actively on Genesis amps, and was very happy with the setup. Aiming to make the A4 sound even better!
