jonnie
What the differences in the 06 gti compared to the 05? Ive heard about diff in dash or somethin and also rear head rests?
silentandy
Not a great deal really, off the top of my head it's: <ul type="square"> [*]Slightly darker dash colour [*]Black ashtray instead of silver [*]Beesting aerial instead of in rear screen [*]Different door handles [*]Different design front fogs [*]Silver radio knobs I think that's about it

stevie_d
Most people prefer the 05 aerial and ashtray cover, so it's swings and roundabouts tbh.

encee
IIRC, if you have the auto dimming mirrors, I think the `06 only has the driver`s side dimming, whereas on the `05`s (like mine ), both driver`s and passenger`s dim. Or so I`ve heard, don`t know for sure if that`s correct.................
silentandy
Encee I think that was done a lot later than the model year change though, but apparently correct. More cost cutting measures no doubt
JonoNZ
Different steering wheel controls in MY06 as well, I think.
OzGTI
Definitely, the location of the various functions on the 06 wheel I sat in at the Motor Show in early March are different to my 05 car. I think the functions are the same - just in a different location on the wheel.

mixit
I think there could also be a difference in the tail pipes. My Brother in Law has an 05 spec and his seem more like chrome than my 06 spec, which are stainless and crap to keep clean I also think the silver rings around the stereo buttons look tacky
oxfordlad
As I will be getting a 06 car soon, I like the idea of the more black trim in the car, but silver nobs and removing the silver ash tray! thats just annoying!

davyk31
My car has the no smoker pack and therefore has no lid at all. Would the aluminium lid on Ebay fit my car without any hassle? Would look better than just the black gap.

kabskabs
I must agree... I would have though I would have seen your GTI around by now... I saw LPD's on Ponsonby Road some time ago, I was so busy looking at it I almost took someone out.

punas
Did the '05 DSG have 'OFF' marked on the '+' (righthand) paddle shifter? The aluminium around the gear shifter is also brushed, rather than polished I think.

If you want to change your spec from non smokers pack to smokers pack with the alu cover , you could just order the parts and swap them out. Probably be about £70-£80 for all the parts ( just a guess) JD
nbetts
I have had two GTi's now. I took delivery of my first one in September last year. So it was on the '55' plate we have here in the UK. It had a plastic ashtray lid, 'Off' on the DSG right paddle, a bee-sting aerial & brushed aluminium door handles. My newer GTi is an import - But I realised when I bought it that it is older than my first GTi... You can tell by looking at the chassis number in the windscreen... therefore the WVWZZZxxx6xxxxxxx means that the car is an 06 model year - this I think starts in August for VW models... so August onwards in 2005 cars produced after this are 06 model year cars. My 'New' GTi has no bee-sting aerial, it does not have 'Off' marked on the DSG right paddle (but it still works if you hold it for a few seconds) It does have the Aluminuim Ashtray cover (reason why I chose it over the other models on display). It also has a storage compartment under the passenger seat and it also has a fully adjustable drivers seat ( up, down, forwards, backwards, tilt, and recline but no memory) VW are a very strange company with all the differences between similar models
SMB
the electric seat and storage is probably becuase it's an import, each country can spec the car slightly differently, VW UK chose not to have the full electrics and storage packs.
