hi..sorry for not giving car info.!

audi a3 1.8T 1998 S-reg

factory fitted alarm

basic problem is that the alarm triggers, indicators flash but no sound out of the siren. Replaced the siren with a an audi one from a scrapyard only £5, (it works as i've tested it on another car) but still no luck on my car so I was going to trace the fault back to the contol unit hence need a wiring diagram.

Thnx

thanx for the diagram...

it appears that it is the black/yellow wire feeds into the siren which in-turn is connected to ground by the brown wire. However on mine it is a three pin plug with a red/yellow wire as well. Tracing this on the wiring digram indicates it goes to 41. Do you have a key for the wiring diagram so i can find what 41 is.

Did you solve your alarm problem?

thnx

Hi Chaps,

I have a similar problem. I've got an Audi A3 1.8T 2001, I recently installed a new aftermarket stereo with an amp and sub. I managed to get the sound working (after a bit of fiddling around with the wiring for the BOSE rear amplified system) but after all of that my central locking no longer works. I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the wiring adaptor in use as there were 4 adaptors running into my standard concert stereo and now I'm only using 2. The two that aren't in use are: small brown 2 pin connector (I think this is for the display unit) the other is a large red plug that has only a single wire connected to it. I've had a friend take a look at it who's been doing installs for 10 years and he wasn't able to sort it out.

New battery & fuses checked.

Any ideas? Any help would be much appreciated.

My suggestion is that the original stereo would have had a "Safe" pin which is part of the alarm system, and is meant to trigger the alarm if the stereo is removed (wouldn't it be going off already?!). I imagine that if the Safe wire isn't grounded then it would interfere with the alarm system and could cause it to prevent you from locking the car as it thinks that the car isn't secured properly.

I have no idea which pin it would be but I imagine the pinout on the OE head unit would be a good place to look +++

Best of luck.
