Damunk
Hello, I just bought this Polo 1.4 96 model. The damn reverse light does not work and I have checked the bulb. And its a bit rusty... These pictures really do it justice. I got the car for just under a grand. I never knew that the handling of Polo's would not be that good. It's the first time I've ever drove one. Anyway, can anyone give me some tips what modifcations i can make to this polo. I dont have much knowledge on cars. Thanks

felixthecat1
Nice looking car, not sure about the TSW Blades though, I'd bin 'em myself for something less in ya face.
Si_GTi
Not a bad looking Polo IMO Re the rear lights, a popular mod for the mk4 owners like yourself is to fit the all-red rear clusters from a later -spec mk5 Polo like mine (see my gallery, linked below, for high-res images). There is a different bulbholder between the two models but its a fairly straightforward swap. Alternatively the original light units are really cheap on eBay complete with bulbs and bulbholders, that could be an easy fix save messing with the bulbs? If you can find some on there the 16v rear lights are lightly smoke-tinted and look good on a black car Hope this helps
Damunk
Thanks for the tip... There is abit of rust on the bonnet. Is it possible to have certain parts resprayed or does all of it have to be done?, If so.. how much would it cost me you reckon to have the bonnet resprayed? felixthecat1
You can get parts resprayed and blended with the rest of the bodywork but I would advise you to get the whole thing done, depends on the extent and cause of the rust. As far as costs are concerned, how long is a piece of string? Ask around at different bodyshops and see how it goes. All depends on how much love you want to lavish on the car, let's be honest you won't see that cash again when you sell it on.

benjie
anybody - does the VW 12year guarantee on bodywork apply to these Polo's too? Or is it too early? And is it a 12 year guarantee, or 10? Can't remember. Just a thought.

Damunk
I have found all CLEAR RED back lights to put on my 1996 polo. Would they fit as they are from the new polo???
Si_GTi
[ QUOTE ] I have found all CLEAR RED back lights to put on my 1996 polo. Would they fit as they are from the new polo??? [/ QUOTE ] They will fit, yes. However. The bulbholders are different on the later all-red lights so you'll need to do a touch of rewiring to sort it out. Not a major worry. Finally the mk5 lights (the red ones) might need some minor modifications to fit flush on the older mk4 car. Take a look at this DIY thread (with pics) from uk-polos.net - here - for some guidance. Definitely worth the upgrade
