Tarmac_Terrorist
Not that important but I'm curious to know why VW chose blue tinted glass on the sporty models. Has this been the case on previous GTI's? If I remember going back a few years, the colour of the tinted glass depended what colour you bought the car in (Fords & Jap stuff). I also expect that when you need a new windscreen Autoglass will have at least a weeks delay for a blue one!
nhs
Good question. Certainly on the new Mercedes E class series, the standard cars come with green, only the Avantegarde - top spec - cars come in blue. Getting them replaced with Autoglass can be interesting. Have had Autoglass fit a green one, then come back a week or two later, take the green one out and then fit the blue one. Also for rears - in the Golf MY2005 - there's also the arial to worry about..... But I too would like to know why the GTI is blue
RedRobin
Blue has solar protective properties. Conservatory glass is usually lightly blue tinted like the GTI. I know cos I've just had such solar double glazing done at home.
cawky
nhs the arial is not a problem I had to get my rear window replaced last may as the wiper part that comes thru the glass was ofset and scratching the glass , there was no delay , the dealer booked autoglass to come and change it . red normal glass is green to look at , the new glass "pilkington K" has to be fitted in all new windows in houses ,this has a rose tint, as for solar glass in your conservatory ,it could be one of a few types ,it could be that new self cleaning glass , it could be solaglasess own make of glass smiliar to the "k" glass which I think could be green. you will never guess what I fit for a Living!! Stabb
Doesn't the blue tint help to minimize the glare from snow in colder climates?
