I know i've posted this before, but has anyone else experienced or rectified this.

I was driving this morning with the stereo off and it is quite annoying. It seems to be a creaking noise everytime i go over a bump, turn slowly or reverse up a kerb etc. mad.gif I thought it might be the C pillars but now i'm thinking it might be suspension? confused.gif

C pillars are the pillars at the rear of the car, it goes A-B-C. So A is the windscreen pillars, B is between the front/rear doors and C is at the rear window. At least that's how it's always been explained to me.

I do hear some creaking noises when I stop, but I assumed this was just the car cooling down. But I don't hear anthing over a bump.

Leman,

As you know I get this problem on mine and my initial thoughts were the suspension. However, I have listened with the door open when driving down a track and it didnt seem to be coming from outside. I hadnt thought of the c pillars until you mentioned it but I think this is more likely.

I did think it could be something in the boot too but having removed everything it still persisted.

It is a creaking/squeaking noise and doesnt happen all the time and there seems to be no pattern to it either.

Rayza - You've paid a significant amount of dosh for your GTI and it's under warranty - Surely you need VW to sort out any problems. If you are worried about care then ask for one the dealer's damage plan layout illustrations (like they get you to sign before taking a loan/hire car) and get them to sign for its condition and then check it over with them present again afterwards. They'll get the message.

DO the anti roll bar bushes require greasing Robin?

I find that hard to believe?

....Sorry, my post might be misleading: The nylon(?) bushes on my aftermarket Eibach ARBs got well greased by Ray West when fitting. Jay had a suspension noise which greasing solved IIRC.

I'm sure this is not the problem but it might be worth saying anyway:

I had a squeaking from the C pillar area so I checked my boot and then drove with the window down. It even sounded like it was coming from the rear wheels with the window down.

I'm embarassed (and pleased) to say that it was simply the rear seat back not properly engaged with its catch. I gave it a good slam and the squeaking disappeared.

Following on from Punas comment. Long shot..but may be worth eliminating, have you tried putting some insulating tape around the rear seat catches just in case its movement/metal against metal noise emanating in that area ?

I cured my annoying squeaking that way.

Two cure's to this creak i have found work on mine.

1) one creek was from the C-pillar trim. I simply pushed on it a little to help the clips 'ratchet up' this stopped it.

2) Rear hatch or on a 5 door the rear door rubbers start to dry out. The flex of the doors on the rubbers make a creek noise. Simple rubber lube the rubbers. Its normally the raer hatch rubber that causes this. As the lid door flexes on and moves on the rubber. But rrar doors suffer too expecially if there not used alot or are cleaned regular.

You can also get this problem with 4 door cars that have huge front doors in warm weather the rubbers creak on the metal.

Other causes could be Anti roll bar bushes, suspeston bushes drying abit. This was a main problem with the older mk4 golf chassis.

Cheers Snoopy, as always a fantastic pool of knowlege 169144-ok.gif

Are the rear door rubbers the strips of rubber that cushion the door against the chassis when closed or are they something that cushion the hinges.

Also whats the best thing to lube them with!?!
