Golf gearbox + warranty

I bought a 2002 1.4 Golf from an authorised dealer last April with the usual 1 year warranty etc....At the end of March it started to jump out of 5th gear (3 weeks before the warranty was up) - to cut a long story short, the VW dealer did nothing despite having my car for 8 days - and offered nothing.

I'm now in the middle of proceedings with Trading Standards but despite sending the dealership a 'warning' letter on recommendation from TS they still haven't replied.

So

Firstly - any ideas about that 5th gear problem - possibly detent issues? It only does it after about 30 miles continually in 5th.

Secondly, any good ideas about kicking the dealership in the pants and getting them to act? - my next port of call is court.
