shao_khan
Hi, welcome to tyresmoke. I think in 'normal' car production i.e. not VW Supercar models, the dsg does have torque limitations which would limit what you can gain from any kind of chipping. stevie_d
As above, the DSG box is torque limited, but you should be good for 250bhp and 250lf/ft at the very least.
markobyrnes
thanks guys. 250 bhp in the caddy van oh how i dream. would it be possible to bring the 105bhp engine to say even 150bhp ? i suppose i would have to upgrade the turbo, injectors and repmap. the intercooler on the caddy is massive same size as the radiator as far as i can see. i was so amazed vw offered the dsg in the caddy but it makes sence after all commercial drives drive more, and for dubllin traffic and all routes to and from it is excellent. i would seriously recommend it. gear changes you wouldn´t even notice. worth every penny. shao_khan
I am assuming that this is 1.9TDi - 105Bhp? If so then an upgrade to give extra 30bhp and 35lbft would cost you around £400 at someone like APS or Revo, etc. Further gains can be had, but it looks to me like they involve changes to the turbo, manifold and exhaust - so you would be looking at costs iro £2k (at a guess) to give you gains of around 50 - 70bhp. stevie_d
Sorry, thought it was a car and was the GTI for some reason I REALLY should have read it, sorry. As shao_khan says, 20-30bhp from a remap would be respectable. Although this doesn't seem like much it would probably flatten out the power curve and you'd notice the difference
markobyrnes
yeah i thought i would have to do some serious mods a well it would be nice to have a good bit of power. i have a tuning box on it but it does make it smoke alot when i put my foot down. but it did give it a good power increase. will long tern use of the tuning box be harmful? the max i got out of it was 185kph on the motorway with a roof ladder and 3 stage ladder without the tuning box it was almost 160kph. at 185 it´s at the red line i don`t have a habbit of doing those speeds. but its nice to have a bit of power from 0-100kph especially on back roads overtaking grannys in micra´s. why do they neglect the poor old caddy of more powerful engines? i´d like the 2.0 140bhp that would be nice. hopefully vw will introduce one soon enough!!! shao_khan
Lots of mixed feelings here on tuning boxes - Benjie has been running one ages and had no issues, but I still have some doubts, for me i'd look to pay the extra and go for a remap.
